Handwashing with soap is one of the most cost-effective and inexpensive ways to prevent disease. Promoting hygiene behavior through children has multiple benefits. It improves hygiene practices among children, who then bring these behaviors back to their families and communities. This not only helps develop lifelong habits but help bring about generational change, which is essential for long-term behavior change. #WASHinschools #3StarApproach to WASH in Schools #PACIFICWinS

Great summary of updates and ongoing activities in the wastewater sector by LEWAP. Had the chance to present the latest Antoura Feasibility Study for fecal sludge management that CubeX conducted in 2022-2023. The study aimed to develop a budgeted implementation plan for interventions over the duration of 5 years and scope of work included field surveys on community's engagement and willingness to pay, prioritization of households for intervention, mapping of wastewater treatment systems solution providers as well as identifying solutions for the collection and treatment of sludge from household septic systems, focusing on resource recovery, economic viability and community engagement. #wastewater #sludge #lebanon #wastewatermanagement #decentralized #resourcerecovery

Interested in the pathways to get to safe drinking water for all in rural areas? Listening to the launch of the WHO Guidelines for drinking-water quality: small water supplies and wondering how to improve management to meet this guidelines? Have a look at some of the resources below from our REACH | Water Security team 👇🏾
2.2 billion lack access to safe drinking water. Great progress was made in delivering access to drinking water infrastructure in the past decade, but it hasn't translated to safe drinking water. At REACH, we've been working on how professional service providers can expand their work to include water safety management, demonstrating new models to advance drinking water safety in rural areas. 📽 For an intro to our work, see the video below on Delivering Safe Water in Africa and Asia - with Katrina Charles, Saskia Nowicki, Robert Gakubia, Sara Marks, Nurul Osman For more details see our resources on water quality : 👉 https://lnkd.in/eXDjHNy5 Including: 📊 Work with Eawag, Helvetas, HYSAWA and FundiFix on developing fit-for-purpose laboratories for water service providers. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eD8ZwpNq 🚰 Establishing a new professional water service in Bangladesh, SafePani, to improve water safety in schools and healthcare facilities 👉 https://lnkd.in/dmM3Ypzx 👍 Opportunities on expanding water safety through regulation of rural water services 👉 https://lnkd.in/eme_rTs7

Dear network, I invite you to watch a powerful YouTube video highlighting the urgent problem of cooking with firewood in schools in Kenya. The film, a product of the University of Liverpool's NIHR-funded CLEAN-Air (Africa) (CAA) program, underscores the urgent need for action. Cooking with firewood is a major health hazard, but it also has a profound impact on the environment, contributing to deforestation. This outdated practice also affects children's well-being, leading to instances of skipping meals. The situation in other sub-Saharan countries mirrors this example. The time for change is now! Whether through LPG or electric cooking, we need to move towards sustainable solutions. Let's amplify this message and raise awareness. Watch and share the video to inspire change for healthier, more sustainable school environments.
Across sub-Saharan Africa more than 90% of schools rely on wood fuel and charcoal for cooking for students and staff. In Kenya alone this translates to more than 1.3 million metric tonnes of wood being consumed each year by its schools and colleges. This has huge environmental impacts on forest reserves in the region, while the dangerous levels of air pollution from burning wood fuel in open stoves adversely affects the health of those working and learning in the school environment, and in surrounding communities. Our new documentary film tells the story of this major health and environmental challenge, through the accounts of cooks, students, and the head teachers of two schools. The first, a primary school in one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements uses wood to cook for the 2000 children who rely on these meals for adequate and balanced nutrition. The other, a high school on the outskirts of the city, converted a few years ago to using LPG in the kitchen. This was achieved with the support of a rapidly growing finance initiative that’s set to transform institutional reliance on wood fuel across Kenya and East Africa. University of Liverpool YouTube: https://lnkd.in/e9BVd6Hj The video is a product of The University of Liverpool’s NIHR-funded CLEAN-Air (Africa) (CAA) Programme. This collaboration with research teams in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Cameroon is committed to providing evidence that can accelerate the urgently required transition to clean cooking in homes and institutions across the continent. Filmed and produced by Nigel Bruce (Emeritus Professor of Public Health) and narrated by Daniel Pope (Prof of Global Public Health and CAA Programme Director), the video is grounded in the team’s research on air quality in the schools and plans for evaluating the impact of the transition to clean fuels. African governments are now setting ambitious targets for schools and other public institutions to move to the use of clean cooking fuels including LPG and electricity. The film shows how CLEAN-Air Africa is working with major Development Bank Foundations (Equity Bank and Kenya Commercial Bank) that are providing the critical finance solutions that can support these transitions. #airpollution #cleanair #cleanenergytransition #Kenya #EastAfrica #schoolmeals #childnutrition #cleanfuels #lpg #UniversityofLiverpool

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Workshop extends this year to assess Lebanon's Food Security in the projection period, accounting for individuals' stressed or crisis coping strategies as compromising health and/or education to meet basic food needs. With over 90,000 internally displaced individuals from across the Southern borders, this analysis has been instrumental to identify the impact of this escalation on the food security status across Lebanese residents and refugees.
