Aegean Airlines recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. On 28-May-1999 its initial fleet of two Avro RJ100s operated its first flights from Athens to Heraklion and Thessaloniki. Since then it has acquired the former flag carrier Olympic Air (in 2013) and established itself as Greece's leading airline. Today the group flies 249 routes and has a fleet of 63 Airbus narrowbodies and 16 turboprops. In 2023 Aegean Airlines Group posted its highest-ever revenue and profits for the second year running, with double digit EBIT margins, in spite of low cost airlines' growth and market share gains in Greece. We took 4 x international flights. We asked each airline ….. We are travelling for my husbands 50th, so you think we could have an upgrade ? Singapore airlines …. I’m sorry, we don’t do that anymore. Emirates airline , I’m sorry, I can’t do that because you do have a membership card, but there is space ! Ask the cabin crew, they can do that for you …. Cabin crew, no sorry , he should have done that for you when you checked in. British Airways …… No. it’s against our policy . Does an upgrade not happen anymore? For special events ? Why have the empty seats when you could make someone’s day, year! Anyone ever get an upgrade ? Is there a secret touch, word or code ? Richard Branson could you help us out? Due to the fact that demand for air travel has not fully recovered on certain regional routes after the pandemic, Austrian Airlines faces new challenges. Particularly, the slow recovery of business travel demand results in a lower demand level, necessitating adjusted capacity structures for economically viable operations. ✈️ Routes such as Vienna to Klagenfurt or Košice are neither economically nor operationally ideal for Austrian Airlines current fleet. These routes will now be served by BRA - Braathens Regional Airlines through wet lease. This means that aircraft and crews will be provided by the partner airline. On board, passengers can expect the familiar Austrian Airlines catering product, and both Business and Economy Class seats will be offered. 🥗🥖 The flights will be operated with two ATR propeller aircraft, which, due to their lower capacity, are more efficient for the respective routes, emit less CO2, and provide the appropriate seat volume for the markets served, with 72 seats.
