Persistent rain has severely delayed France's wheat harvest, with only 4% of the soft wheat area harvested compared to 26% the previous year. The French agriculture ministry forecasts a 15% production drop to a four-year low of 29.7 million metric tons. Market estimates suggest even lower figures. Poor yields for winter barley, the first major cereal to be harvested, have raised concerns about overall crop quality. The continuous rain and limited sunshine have significantly impacted crop conditions, with further downward revisions to harvest expectations anticipated. #Rain #France #Wheat #Harvest #FrenchAgricultureMinistry #PoorYield

🇪🇺 #EU #wheat #harvest may be the lowest in six years Last week, estimates of wheat production in the EU declined as yields remained lower than expected in the leading producing countries - #France and #Germany. This was the result of prolonged rains during the key periods of crop development and harvesting. The lower estimates of analysts, the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and the governments of France and Germany indicate a difficult situation. Stratégie Grains currently estimates the production of soft wheat in the EU at 116.50 mln tons. This is 5.8 mln tons lower than the company's previous forecast and will be the lowest harvest since 2018 (114.8 mln tons according to the European Commission). The company also drew attention to quality issues. Read more 👉 http://surl.li/hrxpnu

Smallest #EU-27 #wheat crop since 2018 #European wheat production estimates have dropped due to poorer #yields in #France and #Germany, caused by persistent #rain during crucial #crop periods. The French #government reduced its #soft wheat crop estimate by 3.3 Mt to 26.3 Mt, marking a 25% #decrease from 2023 and the smallest crop since 1987. Germany's first estimate of its 2024 wheat crop is also down, at 19.7 Mt, the lowest since 2003. These smaller crop numbers are helping to support wheat prices, although the positive #US #maize outlook may limit #gains in #feed #grain prices. https://lnkd.in/dTydmysR

🇦🇷🌧Rainfall will likely be below normal in the western part of Argentina's agricultural heartland over the next three months, the country's National Weather Service said on 31 May, forecasting normal to below-normal rainfall for the rest of the Pampas region. Below-normal rainfall will be beneficial for Argentine farmers finishing the delayed soybean and corn harvest, and will allow wheat planting to move forward at a steady pace. Soil moisture for wheat is good.
