Here is a letter written by Yale’s new endowment CIO back in October 2023. • Former CIO David Swensen mentored the new Yale CIO plus 15 others now overseeing prominent endowments and foundations • From 1985 until his passing in 2021, Swensen and team grew the $1 billion endowment to over $40 billion earning a 13.7% annual return • The 10-year return of 10.9% at the end of FY 2023, which is 3.0% above the mean endowment return, added an incremental $600m per year in perpetuity • The endowment will stick to investing meaningfully in illiquid assets, such as PE and VC funds • The endowment seeks to partner with the next generation of talented investors, whether or not they have a track record

Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) play a key role in uplifting students and communities. However, their endowments - crucial to their financial stability and growth - face serious systemic challenges. As part of PGIM's long-held commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, we conducted a first-of-its-kind directional study in partnership with UNCF (United Negro College Fund) to understand the constraints that HBCU investment professionals face in growing their endowments and the impactful role the asset management industry can play to support them in their endowment efforts. March Madness has always been a lot of fun for me, pursing different degrees at schools formerly members of the Big East (who could forget the x6 overtimes Big East Tournament Quarterfinal where Syracuse defeated UConn!), the entire school was energized from start to finish.
