March 26 marks the national day of #epilepsy awareness. This day, which is also known as the #purple day, was initially created by Cassidy Megan to get people talking about epilepsy, a disorder of the central nervous system that is mostly characterized by recurrent seizures. According to Purple Day's website, 65 million people have been estimated to have epilepsy worldwide, that is about 1 in 100 people. Although the exact cause of this disorder is yet to be determined, most cases are treatable using different antileptic drugs and therapies. As outsiders, we are responsible for educating ourselves and trying to #EndEpilepsyStigma. No disease or disorder should be stigmatized and no one should live in the fear of judgment for a condition that they have had no control over. PMM2-CDG is the most common congenital disorder of glycosylation by quite some margin, but many aspects of the condition remain poorly understood. Developmental delay leading to intellectual disability (ID) is a significantly reported feature of PMM2 disease with the ID known to be of varying severity but this has not been well explored to date.
