What is the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness? We’re accountable for leading the state’s efforts to move towards housing, health, and racial justice for people experiencing homelessness. The Council is a cabinet-level body led by Lt. Governor Flanagan and comprised of the commissioners of 13 state agencies and the chair of the Metropolitan Council. Together, we’re working toward a Minnesota where homelessness is prevented whenever possible, and is brief, rare, and non-recurring when people do face it. Since 2016, we’ve seen a 40% reduction in youth and young adult homelessness across the state. However, our most up-to-date data shows that of the 15,338 young people who access the homelessness system, 50% of touchpoints are disproportionately BIPOC youth. This critical information prompts us to ask: Can we truly end youth homelessness without addressing disproportionality? A Way Home Washington is committed to being a convener of knowledge, a facilitator for cross-community learning, and an intermediary that strengthens community resilience through real-time data systems, coaching, and technical assistance. That's why we are working with communities through our Anchor Community Initiative to empower them to make system level changes that drive reductions in unaccompanied youth and young adult homelessness while centering disproportionality. Let's make a collective effort to address homelessness with compassion and empathy. Each person experiencing homelessness is not just a statistic but someone's brother, sister, father, mother, or friend. They deserve to be seen, heard, and uplifted. By embracing a proactive approach and understanding the human stories behind the struggles, we can work towards meaningful solutions. Let's reject the notion of discarding individuals facing homelessness and instead champion empathy, awareness, and initiatives that pave the way for a more compassionate and inclusive society. Together, we can make strides in ending homelessness and building a community where everyone has the chance for a better, more dignified life. #EndHomelessness #HumanityFirst
