🚨 Did you know that in at least 23 countries, suicide is still criminalized? This type of legislation, which is mostly outdated and of colonial origin, not only actively hinders people from seeking help, but perpetuates stigma and discrimination towards people with mental health conditions. It is therefore vital that mental health-related legislation either directly incorporates or goes hand in hand with the repeal of such discriminatory legislation. 📜✊ We urge our national partners to leverage both the World Health Organization/Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights guidance and our latest advocacy guide, "Using the WHO/OHCHR’s Guidance and Practice for National Reform," to advocate for these necessary legislative reforms. 💪💙 📥 Download the guide here: https://lnkd.in/dXe6wjDM UHC2030 - Taking action for universal health coverage Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN) Taskeen #MentalHealthPH#MentalHealthPH #MentalHealthAdvocacy #LegislativeReform #GlobalMentalHealth

I know I'm going to enrange some (guilty) people, but in the end, somebody needs to call a spade a spade! Who died and made you Pope? Who said that people need more 'specialists trained in mental health'? What about training people themselves in preventive mental health so they won't need specialists?! I'm literally sick of this virtue signaling posturing! This is my reply to Centre for Mental Health post https://lnkd.in/egP5W4Qf Address the real causes of poor mental health and you don't need £23 billion/year NHS plan. 1. Inequality & poverty, low paid jobs that don't match the living costs - scientifically proven to be the main causes of mental health conditions, addictions, domestic violence and child abuse and neglect - adding in a snowball effect to more MHC. 2. Preventive self-development education. Why are these 'militant' organisations so keen to advocate for more after the fact, firefighting NHS therapeutic interventions (which we know are anything but and fail most patients - I have plenty of data, in case you need it) and more state funded charities offering substandard services, instead of offering each family a yearly tax benefit/grant to invest in their mental health of their choice? If it's 'person-centred approach', let the person choose what they expose themselves and their family to. 3. Diversity and inclusion. Most people are religious or spiritual. Many of the adults neurodivergents fit in this cathegory. These are protected characteristics under the EAct. A person's faith and spiritual beliefs are fundamental in their healing and recovery, yet, the current mental health materialistic approach is denying these rights. Alternative modalities are excluded from a sufferer's options, yet they pay their taxes and therefore, their treatment, while having no say in the matter. I call NHS England partly responsible for the deterioration of people's mental health in the UK because through their monopoly over human experience - aka 'mental health', they've excluded and marginalised people of faith and spiritually inclined who would have benefited from a holistic approach. The NHS excludes from the employment pool lived experience therapists, counsellors, coaches and alternative medicine practitioners, while wasting more taxpayer money to train new batches of young Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners for one year, by their design, to then deploy in their IAPT & CHAMS 30-45 min 'person-centred therapeutic interventions'. These people haven't finished growing, let alone have the life experience to help those with complex conditions. So, yeah, lobby away, but lobby the right issues!
We've got a plan to build a mentally healthier nation. And we want to see it put into action in the next parliament. Alongside 60 organisations we're calling on all political parties to make a serious commitment to mental health by focusing on preventing mental ill health, tackling inequalities and investing in services. Our manifesto for the 2024 general election sets out the policies that would make a real difference. Let's build #AMentallyHealthierNation https://lnkd.in/eNYavjk3

*DECRIMINALIZING SUICIDE WORLDWIDE IS HUMAN RIGHT* The human right to health can be protected by implementing a public health approach that allows vulnerable people to receive adequate mental health care and assistance during times of need without the fear of legal repercussions. Decriminalisation of suicide is a major stepping stone towards supporting the right to access care because it does not merely act as a legal reform. But instead, it serves as the recognition that individuals in distress need support instead of punishment. Support workers can respond differently when laws change because public administration, which includes crises and social support services, also changes with them. Additionally, it fosters an atmosphere of open communication by removing obstacles to discussing something against the law. Therefore, decriminalisation sends a powerful message that society is dedicated to encouraging understanding, compassion, and promoting comprehensive mental health support. Accessible and affordable mental health services, supportive environments, crisis interventions, and policies and programs that recognise the autonomy and dignity of individuals are imperative to realise the 2023 theme “Freedom, Equality and Justice for All”. We call on world leaders, mental health professionals, and communities to unite in implementing and strengthening mental health and suicide prevention services globally, as an integral part of upholding human rights. - IASP #HumanRightsDay #decriminalizingsuicide #suicudeispreventable

🌏 This #HumanRightsDay many countries around the world still have #MentalHealth legislation that is out of date and discriminatory including the criminalisation of suicide. 📘 Recently published by the World Health Organization and Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights the "Mental health, human rights and legislation: guidance and practice", helps governments to develop better national mental health legislation and includes ways to help shape your country’s laws. 🤝 We will only achieve #HumanRights based #MentalHealthforAll if laws on mental health are consistent with standards first set 75 years ago in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 🔍 Access the publication here:https://lnkd.in/eevkeq-D UN Human Rights Office "Voices from the Ground" - A Crowdsource Project 25 Crimes LifeLine International #HumanRights75 #DecriminaliseSuicideWorldwide

Proposition 1: Newsom’s overhaul of California’s mental health system A “yes” vote on the measure would also approve a $6.4-billion bond to build facilities to provide 10,000 new treatment beds. The bipartisan support at the Capitol speaks to reality that the problem stretches to every corner of California. Opposing side, "several mental health advocacy groups arguing that it’s too costly and will reduce local funding for existing mental health services. ❗️Mental health literacy has been shown to be a stronger factor in determining individual's health status than factors such as income, employment, education or ethnicity and improving its advocacy would increase the individual's willingness to seek help and reduce stigma associated with mental illness. And this mindfulness is a lot more than just a campaign, but a lifestyle. 🌎Legal Research Paradigm Society (LRPS) is accepting the contributory work in the form of Articles/Blogs/ Policy briefs.
