Project Impact spotlight: For the past 20 years, UTA has been partnering with the Ballona Wetlands to help preserve the last coastal wetland in Los Angeles and Project Impact was the perfect opportunity for employees to get involved.
CEO Jeremy Zimmer says, “It’s part of what we do. You’re in a community and you try to give back to that community.”
We'll get to work. We're looking forward to actually doing some planting this morning, so let's head on in. Follow me. So our mission is to champion the protection and restoration of the Bayona Wetlands. We are the last coastal wetland here in Los Angeles. We are planting about 200 native plants. So this is part of our work to restore these ecosystems. We come in, we remove the invasive plant species, and then we come back and plant our native plants. It's our 20th year here at The Wetlands and we're really involved and committed to this project, which is such an important part of preserving the natural wetlands area in Los Angeles. Today we are doing things that I think are probably outside of our norm, just planting, getting in the dirt, using shovels. The atmosphere out here is just awesome. Everyone's really excited to be here, spend the day outside and do a little good in the community. Project Impact shows that we really act as a family and everyone's here to help each other. It's part of what we do is, you know, you're in a community, you try to give back to that community. We have to both take a give and society, and if we're not putting something back like, well, what are we doing? You TA has been coming out to the banal wetlands for 20 years. It's wonderful to have that continuity, to have an organization that continues to support our work year after year after year. We can't say how much we appreciate this partnership.

There are many short coming in the cannabis industry compared to traditional food manufacturing. While it’s been great to see cannabis companies adopt GMP policies, I wonder how effective these measures actually are. Is anyone monitoring GMP compliance in cannabis production? Does being GMP certified in the cannabis space actually mean anything?
Trulieve says they are “cGMP certified”. However Kim Rivers can be seen improperly wearing a hairnet throughout this video. It’s hard to trust that Trulieve is producing a clean product when the company chooses to showcase a video of their CEO wearing a hairnet ineffectivly while in a production area.
Any thoughts on GMP compliance in the cannabis space?
"As Northville Downs current location is now closed permanently, this may be the end of the harness horse racing gambling industry in Michigan. But Plymouth Township’s residents have expressed little sympathy for the industry.
“A dying, harmful business is not what the community wants for the future of their township, and I hope that you’ve heard that,” Ban told the Board.
“Live horse races account for less than 4% of wagers at this facility,” observed Adams, “ however it is still an industry with decades of decline and controversy. This gambling facility contravenes our master plan…Northville Downs holds accountability for thinking it was okay to force itself onto our community without assessing overall residential sentiment–frankly business 101.”
What’s happened in Plymouth Township is similar to what’s happening in many other Michigan communities–communities facing Manufacturing 4.0 megasite development, in particular. In Big Rapids, both Green Charter Township’s Supervisor and Big Rapids Township’s Supervisor dug in their heels in favor of Gotion, in spite of rising community opposition to the project. Unlike Heise, however, BRT and GCT’s supervisors never acknowledged that Gotion was operating in bad faith, steamrolling over their constituents until they were recalled last November–by a landslide.
Likewise, Marshall’s City Council continues to defend corporate interests, black moneyed lobbying groups, and economic developers above the will of the people. Marshall residents have continued to protest the Ford CATL EV megasite twice each week–even throughout the winter.
As more developers and local boards go over the heads of local residents to strike deals for large, inappropriate projects, more residents are mobilizing against this overreach. Michigan’s local communities are realizing how critical their local governments are, and they’re getting involved. "

I provide interim and advisory support based on my experience as a Strategic Director of Place in Local Government. Improvement & change as well as Regeneration and growth being particular strengths.
Interesting to see economic growth being a top priority for the new Government; here's my take on it from a Local Government perspective with Matt Masters
In today’s episode, I sat down with Paul Woodcock, interim strategic regeneration, development, and place shaping advisor.
Paul previously served as the Strategic Director of Regeneration and Environment at Rotherham Council. His responsibilities included overseeing economic development, environmental initiatives, and place-making strategies. During his tenure, he played a key role in shaping policies and projects that contributed to the borough’s growth and revitalisation.
In this immensely interesting conversation Paul speaks about:
· Economic Development and Industrial/Economic Strategy and what this could mean for Local Government and what are the opportunities.
· How local authorities can put plans and strategies in place to grow the local economy and then how to implement these strategies.
· The vital role of collaboration and the triple helix.
· Finally, how to put these elements into a wider context, when creating beautiful places for local communities to enjoy. Specifically focusing on the importance of transport, residential, green spaces and culture & leisure in place making.

Our Chair of Trustees Kersten England CBE is sharing a platform with Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, Rozina Breen, Hannah Slaughter and Torsten Bell this evening at the Resolution Foundation’s panel debate, ‘Building a better Britain: how cities like Bradford can help to end economic stagnation’.
You can still register to join us tonight: https://lnkd.in/dNN_P2mH
Kersten will be sharing our Institute for Community Studies's research on #NetZero policy, which highlights a risk of ‘transition poverty’ that could leave the UK's poorest 40% behind, saying "We can’t meaningfully talk about economic change without looking at the green economy". More: https://bit.ly/4bYTliR
Furthermore, she'll be exploring how businesses need support to drive economic growth too. Social outcomes play second fiddle in #ESG strategies, yet ‘communities’ are cited by 76% of FTSE 100s as ‘key stakeholders’. She'll ask: "What difference could it make if our biggest companies truly engaged?" More: https://bit.ly/3LnHfVG#EconomicDevelopment#Inequality#EconomicStrategy

Hello All,
Let's get real.
This project is another masterpiece of Mr. Steven Levene/COO of Metrolinx.
The steel span Through Plate Girder over existing Tracks at Newmarket 4.90 Davenport has many structural concerns.
Mr. steven leven/(current COO of Metrolinx/ by then VP of RailCiorridor) decided to create a Risk Assessment Team Meeting (on Friday, June 4, 2021 1:30 PM-3:30 PM, ) and chaired this Team meeting.
Created +/-35 pages of check marks, and he concluded that:
all are good, the Case Closed!
The above case was opened by an engineer (Name DELETED] of RailCorridor to begin with.
the steel span was a Through Plate Girder, TPG, +/-100 ft long, double track, and amazingly, Direct Fixation.
Why Direct Fixation instead of Ballasted Deck?
Everyone knows that Direct Fixation will reduce the life-span of the bridge from +100 years to around 30 years.
well Metrolinx has the answer!!!
Also, the girders have top and bottom flange splices, as well as web splices exactly at the same location: one series on the North side of the span and one series on the south side.
the above splices means that the weakest point of the top flange is aligned with the weakest point of the web and aligned with the weakest point of bottom flange, at two separate locations, one on the North side and one on the south side.
you do the math!!!
If you want more information, please let me know.
Also, on September 18th and 19th, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, during the Arema Annual Conference, Metrolinx gave a presentation regarding the elevated bridge at Davenport Diamond, Newmarket sub/MX, and New Toronto Sub/(of a real railway).
Ironically, Metrolinx did not talk about this portion (steel double track TOG crossing over the existing tracks of another railway) of the project.
the bridge designer was not part of the presenter team.
The bridge contractor was not part of the presenter team. I doubt that there was even a representative of the actual designer and the actual contractor team at Arema 2024.
The people at the Arema Conf. 2024 were asking why?
Well, the answer is: there is a series of serious issues with that steel span bridge over the New Toronto Tracks.
Stay tuned for more info.
