Channel your inner "Waterproofing Warrior" and keep your home dry. Seal vulnerable areas around sinks, tubs, and showers. Don't let tiny cracks in walls or foundations grow into bigger leaks by tackling them swiftly. It's also important to ensure proper drainage angles away from your home. With these proactive measures, you'll banish dampness and enjoy peace of mind. We're excited to see this project take shape today! If conditions are right, the USDA Forest Service will be conducting a prescribed burn west of Bend, Oregon in a fire-dependent ecosystem -- the dry forests of central and eastern Oregon and Washington -- that has been deprived of this kind of low- to mid-severity fire for a century. The result is that fuels build up on the forest floor, and when lightning strikes or a wildfire is otherwise ignited, it becomes very large and catastrophic. With this project, there was mowing and thinning first, and now there is prescribed fire applied to remove remaining fuels and debris. The result is a healthier forest AND lower risk of catastrophic wildfire here in the future.

Author. Speaker. Wildfire, Emergency Management, and Design Innovation Driven by Experience, Research, and Theory.
I am interested in this system from Colorado Firebreak. In addition to protecting the structure, this is the first innovation I have encountered that protects the trees many homeowners value. This system moves beyond the issue of how to move homeowners to remove trees that could threaten their homes during a wildfire event. Instead, Colorado Firebreak uses sprinklers to protect the trees from spreading fire to the structure. At the same time, this approach should also save the trees homeowners desire. I am unaware of what the cost is for the system. For the segment of the population that can afford it, a major disincentive has been removed from taking the kind of proactive action Colorado Firebreak offers by allowing homeowners to keep their trees. That is a very impressive way to address the issue of trees encroaching on structures. I imagine that in some cases, some trees will need to be removed to give the system and the structure it is trying to save a chance. However, it will still be an improvement over an approach that does not leverage the Firebreak system and seeks to cut down many more trees. All in all, it is really interesting and offers a potential solution to a very big problem. #WUI #coloradofirebreak #firemanagement #fireadapted #resilience #wildfire #forestfire #wildlandurbaninterface

The Park Fire continues to rage across over 421,000 acres and is 34% contained -- which is the result of a remarkable amount of work. We are very concerned about reports of entrapments of firefighters who are already working under horrific conditions. This megafire is a monster. Watch the video and witness the vortex (firenado) and then imagine fighting it under this heat. This is the Era of Megafire. "Operations Chief Mark Brunton told firefighters in the morning briefing that Mill Creek and Deer Creek remain the focus. He told the crews that they had had some equipment burnovers and that fire behavior was unprecedented and they need to have situational awareness and to be "hypersensitive about it." "Talking to a lot of people that have been around fires for quite a while — myself included is the fact that this is the kind of fire behavior that is unprecedented," he said. "We haven't seen ... I mean for this fire to jump up in the top five most destructive fires in California's history has said something and you're seeing it out there. So it's time to maintain that sit Night operations chief Eric Schwab said that a firing operation was started last night in the area of Highway 36 and 172 in an attempt to cut the head off. The ParkFire has burned 107,116 acres in the Lassen National Forest. Monday's fire activity forced some evacuation warnings to be upgraded in the area east of Mill Creek.
