The four crack types Type I Crack: These cracks are longitudinal cracks that run parallel to the weld direction. They typically occur in the weld metal itself and are caused by shrinkage during solidification Type II Crack: These are also longitudinal cracks, but they run in the HAZ adjacent to the weld metal. They are caused by reheating of the base metal during welding, which can cause grain coarsening and reduced ductility Type III Crack: These are transverse cracks that run perpendicular to the weld direction. They can occur in the HAZ or the weld metal. They are typically caused by stresses caused by welding such as residual stresses or thermal stresses Type IV Crack: These cracks occur in the weld metal or the HAZ and propagate across the weld to the opposite HAZ They are associated with hydrogen in the weld metal, and can be particularly troublesome in high-strength steels. #ndt #refinery #Job #interview #knpc #koc #adnoc #aramco #uae #corrosion …see more Activate to view larger image,
