One of the common questions I've heard over the years about Global Medical Brigades is when we will begin our work in a new country. It doesn't happen often. Where and when to expand are comprehensive decisions that take into consideration a multitude of factors. We ask ourselves and prospective community partners questions like: - Is our collaboration scalable beyond medical relief? Will it be possible to tap into and sustain local leadership to promote access to healthcare, public health and water infrastructure, and economic development? - What are the current and potential socioeconomic strengths and challenges at local, national, and regional levels? - What needs are prioritized and requested by prospective partner communities? What resources do we have to offer? Do these align? With our impactful history of sustainable development in Central America, strong local leadership, and high stakeholder interest, communities Belize became an undeniable fit for our program. It's exciting to hear feedback live from volunteers Aaliyah and Maggie from Montclair State University!

Closing out Prostate Cancer Awareness month strong! Boston Scientific Urology Great event, hundreds educated all at once on the NFL Harvard former player study webinar. Touched on head, heart and hormone health for former NFL athletes and all men. Key take always: 1. take control of your health and be your own advocate and get the info you need from your physicians 2. whatever is bothering you, might not be caused by what you think 3. learn you family medical history and have the conversations 4. we’re ALL more alike than we are different 5. catch these things early for best chance of positive long term outcomes, take the test, get screened

A great campaign with valuable information about increasing physical activity for people with long term conditions. A great summary of steps made and what the next steps will be.

Okayyyyy... I slept for three days and now I'm BACK. And I made muffins for the team. Last Thursday we had nearly the entire department (150ish!) in person. We wanted to start the year with clarity, simplifying the "plans on plans on plans" that Public Health is used to... distilling the next 12-18 month's focus down to a few key efforts. We also wanted to laugh. And we wanted to cry. And we wanted to get to know each other in new ways. We did all of those things. I think I made it about 43 minutes before crying... plus we did Laughing Yoga, so the laughter was mandatory. We played with fidget toys and Play-Doh, and we drew our dream communities. We ate many bagels and bopped our heads to a suitable-for-work bespoke playlist. Most importantly, we explored how we can keep reaching for more and better to serve the hundreds of thousands of people we are entrusted to keep safe and healthy. The Cardinal Seven is our term for the seven big things we will commit to this year. They're bold but doable. They aren't rocket science--but in a world where everything feels overly complicated, it's a nice reprieve from checklists and KPI's. Yes, we will still track and measure and get reaccredited (I declare it), but sometimes you gotta just say what you want to do in plain words. This year, we commit to: 🗣 Creating a culture of honest, 360 feedback that disrupts bias 🗣 🤑 Being better financial stewards 🤑 🏆 Creating a culture of excellence through rapid QI and more transparent recognition programs 🏆 💪 Busting down walls and taking more clinical services to the streets 💪 📈 Modernizing our data systems, reaching towards Public Health 4.0 📈 📢 Being known through a renewed focus on social marketing, brand, and presence 📢 Yes, that's only six out of seven... but the seventh is way too big for a single LinkedIn post. Let's just say that number seven has something to do with cactuses, maps, and real-deal health equity. 🌵 I feel overwhelmingly, unapologetically blessed. It's not all puppies and corn dogs, as one of our directors said at the meeting, but with this team in place, there is hope. We have ambition, energy, humility, and trust. And we know that if we fail, it means we tried. If we tried, it means we believed. (Yes, I used that at the meeting and yes I admitted it was stolen from a Peloton ride I took that very morning)

Enjoy this introductory video as I seek an OMA board role. Accessible, comprehensive, and person-focused health care is attainable in hospitals, in LTC, and in community. But ONLY if government spending creates publicly funded system change. The pandemic laid bare the problems of the past and galvanized my focus. I represent solutions over complaints and teams in primary care offices over spending on bricks and mortar. Real change takes experience, not tweeting policy or spending for political expediency. The current trajectory of Health Care delivery is not acceptable. Physicians and all health care professionals are deeply committed to finding solutions. I’m very excited to be joining The Hygiene Bank as its new Chair. I have always been passionate about tackling inequality. When I first came across the Hygiene Bank I was struck by its mission and values, but also by the incredibly practical approach it has taken to support people to empower themselves to achieve their goals and aspirations. Hygiene poverty is a particularly pernicious but largely hidden problem that requires much more attention. I am hopeful that the Hygiene Bank’s next phase will continue to deliver for those experiencing hygiene poverty while seeking longer term systemic solutions. https://lnkd.in/efR6_23p #nationalhygieneweek

#Government and #policy is always influenced by politics, but there's not a lot that I find more invigorating than professionals who dig deep to reach past retail political morass. They dive into complexity to solve problems and overcome obstacles as part of their professional mission to improve their respective communities.
