Truly impactful thesis. Last week I had the pleasure to chat with Nitin Pachisia with Unshackled Ventures. The strategy is focused on investing in and backing immigrant founders. Unshackled will invest capital into early stage entrepreneurs and help immigrants secure US citizenship in the process. So far they've been 100% successful in getting their founders citizenship status. 2 takeaways from our conversation: (1) Most firms will say say they'll invest in people, but there's always an asterisk... *People* that meet ABC criteria. *People* in XYZ markets. *People* with 123 traction. Unshackled truly feels that they invest in people & their potential. I found this incredibly insightful as it's so easy for fund managers to refine their mandate so much that they miss the outliers... Which leads me to my second takeaway... (2) In venture, the business is ALL about outliers. And outliers aren't found in the same space that everyone else is looking. You need to have a different pool you're fishing in if you're going to find outsized returns. Really excited to see where this firm goes! I love his no bullshit, no filter and real transparency when it comes to entrepreneurship. So glad he called out these dumb people selling people illusions and bamboozling like it's easy to make millions.and billions over night like you see in social media. it takes 15+ years to get big and I think I read most people don't become millionaires until their 50s. Important to keep perspective and realistic expectations. I've been guilty of being delusional in the past when I was younger and it kept me from growing faster and finding the right people. What he's done with ideapros.com is amazing and is helping so many aspiring entrepreneurs. His insight into pitching and decks was also helpful. While I didn't agree with 100% of everything in Oren's book Pitch Anything his frameworks and different approach is def helpful in understanding and applying alternative ways to pitch to raise capital successfully. #fundraising #capital #investment #investing #marketing #sales #frameworks #pitching

Before you say he's 'this and that,' just watch as if you are the sixth person in the room listening to a conversation between a startup founder and the investors who are backing him. What I learned from this clip: Being authentic and open is good! Disclosing investments or offering term sheets has always been something that happens in secrecy. Sometimes putting it out there (with consent) could contribute more good. Propose great content pieces if you have some significant update or need something from the community. Use your strategic investors wisely. Be straightforward, get to the point, and keep things short. Chill during investor calls. Keep in mind it's an equal exchange of value.
