Build More Than Just Code: Unlocking the True Value of Relationships in Tech Startups In the fast-paced world of technology, hard work and long hours are often seen as the primary drivers of success. However, the real key might lie in the foundational relationships cultivated along the way. From Airbnb's Brian Chesky, who emphasized the need for relentless dedication to relationship-building, to Greg Hong, whose partnerships were integral to his company's achievements, it's clear that early relationships can significantly influence a startup's trajectory. Whether it's early users who champion your product like Dropbox's adopters, or the talent that propels your vision forward, these connections can become the most influential ambassadors and pivotal elements of your business ecosystem. 🤝 As we continue to innovate and grow, let’s remember: the relationships we foster in the early days of our journey are as crucial as the technology we develop. Changing the way businesses think about sustainability through community & practical brand building | Business Mentor - get Conscious + Content in your business | Mother of 2 | Former Fashion Stylist
I went to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Startup Loft 'Find Your Technical Cofounder' Event today and these are my takeaways... For some background information, I am not a tech founder and conversations with those in the know have led me to believe that having more technical expertise on my team could be beneficial for a number of reasons; 💚 A better grasp internally of the needs of the user and the growth of the product 💚 Having a cofounder lessens the impact and stress on me as a solo founder 💚 Potential VC investors like to see risk mitigation (especially from female entrepreneurs) so having a cofounder ticks this box and shows I have thought about risk. So when I saw this free event from AWS, I thought, why not? Finding a co-founder, especially one with the technical expertise my company needs often seems like dating (they say a cofounder relationship is a lot like a marriage), and I haven't been on a date in about 18 years so I'm a little rusty! 💚 There are resources out there to help you find a technical co-founder, spaces like Y Combinator and Entrepreneur First are good places to start. But also network, network, network. 💚 You may not need a CTO, you may just need a Technical Lead, or a First Engineer. Its really up to you, the skills/personality fit and how much of your company you want to give away. 💚 Don't build until you validate your MVP. This was something I learnt from my experience at IfWeRaise and was knocked home by Richard Howard from AWS. Beware of agencies who want your money. 💚 No or low code platforms like Pico Apps or Adalo are great alternatives to a full build. Or just use google sheets and forms! 💚 When you have so many validated users that no or low code solutions become too expensive, it's likely time to build your product. I also got to meet some lovely new people, and as you already know, you can't beat face to face networking! Thank you to Richard, Ina Yulo Stuve and Lauren Augustavo for setting up and hosting the event. #cofounder #cto #techfounders

“I think many startup founders would benefit from having this ‘big brother’ who’s been through many of the same obstacles and can help steer them through” 👆 Quote from a very pleasant meeting I had yesterday with a really passionate and honest startup founder ☺️ Making the right choices around your tech strategy, build-or-buy strategy, how best to manage and properly utilize your user data and many more things can be a tough nut to crack, if you’re a first time founder and you might not have had your hands deep into the technical parts of such a setup. Partnering with a technical advisor (or fractional CTO) could be a shortcut for you to propel your business forward.

Industry Disruptor Building a Circular Economy in Consumer Electronics | AI and Robotics Powered Reverse Logistics | Founder & CEO - Basatne International & Ardroid
Even as our company has grown, We've kept the startup culture alive for 15 years. Basatne is a family-owned and operated company, and our company culture reflects this closeness, But for me, the key to our continued success lies in merging the hustle mentality of startups with the corporate excellence of leading players like Apple, Google and T-Mobile. As we expand into new markets, this fusion becomes increasingly important. But beyond the team mentality, there’s another driving force behind everything we do: Impact. We've created an environment where every member feels like a valued part of the family and is inspired to make a meaningful difference. I always say that we're a company that does things differently. We’re creating real change. And even long after I'm gone, I envision Basatne continuing to make a positive impact. This can only be achieved by having the right people on board - Individuals who are not only technically skilled, but who are driven to make a lasting impact. #CircularEconomy #ReverseLogistics #Team

When starting off our journey with billie & co., we spent a lot of time on Google searching for the best ways to plan, execute and grow a business. We looked up big and successful companies and researched their backgrounds, how they started, who their co-founders were, and the ‘why’ behind their business. We asked people in our network a million questions and tried to connect with new people who have gone through a start up process before. In the end, we landed on a never-ending list of ‘what to do’ vs ‘what not to do’ that all contradicted each other, which ultimately put us back to square one. With a little nervousness in our mission but enough ambition to get moving, we decided to take the leap of faith and launch. We realised no matter how much research you do, companies you aspire to be like, or people you talk to, we weren’t going to get any closer to our goals if we didn’t make a move and be open to learning and failing on our own. We're a young (and fun) start up, and we’re excited to start sharing candid reflections on our experiences, the challenges, pivotal milestones and the inevitable obstacles along the way. Every month we’ll share something new and hope that our insights are not only relatable, but motivational to someone who is in their Googling phase of starting something new. We also ask a small favour from anyone (still) reading this to like, comment or share our posts, so it not only helps us grow, but helps to get our posts in front of a few eyes who are on a similar path. P.s. here is a photo on the day we decided to kick off billie & co.! The guys in the back represent how we were actually feeling 10 minutes prior. 📸 #billieandco #startup #club #journey #dunedin

💰I'm an inch away from having my first £20,000 month and it's f*****n crazy to me. But here's why it's not what it seems: For my first 6 years of building startups, I was focused on one thing: capital creation (read: creating enough money to stay afloat) And most of the time, I barely managed. The truth is in my entire career there hasn't been a single year that I have made more than $25,000. I've been on an endless cycle of building, scrimping, iterating, failing, and starting again. So to open Stripe and see nearly £20k processed in 4 weeks. This should feel like a freakin' enormous milestone, right? Making what I'd usually make in a whole year, in a single month?! But I'm holding off from poppin' the champagne, because I realize I've simply entered a new phase of the business. From *capital creation* to *capital allocation* Now that we're making meaningful revenue, I need to tap into a whole new skillset: spending it well. Honestly, this is pretty scary. In many ways, it feels new and uncomfy and out of my wheelhouse. How do we protect our values as we scale? Am I being an ethical, effective leader in the world? How can I make sure I can keep paying my incredible team? How can I not f*** up this incredible thing we've created? The pressure on founders is immense not because of the day-to-day, but because we're consistently reaching new phases. We're playing in the unknown. We're trying to make it look effortless, but there's so much overthinking, second-guessing, and making educated guesses. I'm so proud to be here, but I'm nervous / ecstatic / humbled/ grateful / excited (ALL THE FEELS) to see what this next phase brings for me and my tiny team I hope sharing this resonates with the builders out there! ❤️ PS: thank you EVERYONE for your amazing amazing amazing support through every phase of Generalist World, let's go get this next one 🌀🌀 🌀 🌀 #bootstrapping #buildinpublic
