Would you trust Maruti to deliver a car that can rival Mercedes? Probably not. Which is why this ad falls flat. Dilbagh, a Pan Masala that sells at Rs 5/- a pouch is attempting to compete with Rajnigandha, a brand that's at top of its game. So, they lauch Siggnature, develop nice packaging, and sign up Hrithik as Brand Ambassador. The poor guy can't add to the brand. The client probably insisted that "a premium product from Dilbagh" was added at the end. Chances are that even if someone thought of trying the product would shy away; because in his mind he associates the imagery of Dilbagh with Rickshawalas, Autowalas etc. Remember: Imagery matters. Maruti, for example, tried to enter the luxury car or semi-luxury car segment and failed; its was rooted in the "value for money/economy" segment a bit much. People recalled "Kitna deti hai" as the line that defined it. #advertising #brandimage #branding

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), the leader in India’s passenger vehicle market with over 40% market share, continues to dominate with a broad range of hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs, and vans. Listed on BSE and NSE, Maruti Suzuki remains a key player in indices like Nifty 50 and SENSEX. In our recent CFA Research Project, we conducted a comprehensive DCF Valuation, estimating an intrinsic value of ₹14676 per share, suggesting an upside of 16.45% from the current market price of ₹12603. Investment Rationale: • Dominance in SUVs and green vehicles, with 42% eco-friendly vehicle sales mix. • Strong CNG growth: Every third car sold is a CNG vehicle, contributing 34.1% of overall sales as of September 2024. Maruti aims to achieve 6 lakh CNG vehicle sales in FY2024-25. • Improved margins at 13% and export growth of 10% YoY, with record wholesale of 10.63 lakh units in H1 FY25. • Production capacity expansion to 40 lakh units by FY31, alongside a roadmap for 6 EV models by FY25. Investment Risks: Despite strong fundamentals, inventory buildup led Maruti to reduce dispatches, with wholesales dipping 4% in September 2024. Additionally, the company increased discounts, which may pressure profit margins if demand stays weak. However, according to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Maruti expects a sales boost during the festive season, especially with Dussehra and Diwali falling in October. Booking growth is already showing a 5% increase during Shradh, signaling stronger demand ahead. Recommendation: Maruti's dominant market position, strong CNG vehicle growth, and cost controls, coupled with expected festive season demand, we suggest a BUY CALL. *Disclosure: This information is shared for educational purposes only. The 35-year-old India of the 80’s was on a slow and steady path of growth. With an increased access to education and healthcare, the middle class of the then India had high aspirations and raised living standards, but a limited income! They had a dream of owning a 4 wheeler with conditions of Affordability, Mileage, Safety & Sturdiness, pre-attached! Two major players, HINDUSTAN MOTORS LTD and Premier Automobiles dominated the market but produced outdated and limited models of inferior quality catering to a small segment only! Then came a joint venture of Maruti Udyog Limited (a Gov. of India initiative) and Suzuki Motor Corporation (a Japanese company), bringing a significant change with the kind of cars they were producing. Some path-breaking features they offered were: 1. Small Cars: The Maruti 800, became an iconic model and addressed the needs of the majority of consumers. It also established the dominance of compact cars. 2. Technological Transfer: There was a transfer of advanced automotive technology from Suzuki to Maruti Udyog. Which improved the quality, features and made the car technologically advanced. 3. Localization and Cost Efficiency: By localizing the component production they made their car cost efficient and allowed them to price their vehicles competitively. 4. Economic Impact: By creating jobs, fostering ancillary industries, and boosting the automotive ecosystem it made a significant economic impact. Presently out of 18 big competitors in the present Indian automobile market, Maruti Suzuki India Limited holds more than 50% of the market share (the highest for any car in the world). Every 2nd car sold in India today is a Maruti! Maruti’s story is a classic example of what a successful collaboration between international expertise and local needs looks like! Do you agree with me on this? Do let me know! #MarutiSuzuki #AutomobileSector #Alliance #Growth
