To prepare for a trip, one of the things to think about is when to leave for the airport. This is typically done a few days in advance. Some of us use Google Maps to determine travel time. This app is fairly accurate for time estimates based on current actual traffic. However Google Maps isn't as helpful as it could be in predicting travel times at some point in the future. The output provided by the app is how long it "typically" takes at the desired time and this information is given as a range. This information is not very helpful because we do not know the distribution of the data Google is using to estimate the travel time. I suggest that Google Maps provide the output as follows: If you want to be at destination X at 2:30 PM, you need to depart at 12:50 PM to have a 90% probability of arriving at your target time. The app could give us departure times with different probabilities of on-time arrival. Maybe some people want a 99% probability. Google has the data, and it would be a simple process capability calculation to generate the output. Otherwise I don't find Google's "typical" time range for future trips to be very helpful.

Great example of over-reach. This time the EU (It's normally the EU). In their eagerness to punish Google, who are deemed far too successful at optimizing for customers, Google is no longer allowed to serve "it's own" products on search results. Newsflash: Google doesn't really have it's own products. Just different display types. Google Travel doesn't have transactions, it just sends users as quickly and directly as possible to the place they would like to make a booking. In many cases, that is the hotel or airline direct. Here is what happens - the traffic goes to the OTAs (also a target by the EU) , but apparently nobody at the EU has any clue that they are directly linked.
