What I Have Observed Over the Years Running an NGO🌟 Over the years, I've noticed some recurring issues in the field of Corporate Social Investment (CSI) and governmental social programs: 📋 CSI as a Formality: Many companies engage in CSI as a "tick the box" exercise or to benefit from tax incentives, rather than from a genuine desire to effect social change. 💔 Lack of Passion Among CSI Employees: The individuals employed to manage CSI initiatives often lack the necessary passion and drive to truly make a difference. This lack of enthusiasm can hinder the effectiveness of these programs. 🔄 Disconnect Between Founders and CSI Teams: Founders and top management are frequently unaware that their CSI teams do not share their vision or commitment to helping the less privileged. This disconnect can result in misaligned goals and sub optimal outcomes. This issue is not limited to the private sector. In government organizations such as the NYDA, many employees appear more interested in their paychecks than in serving the public. There is a noticeable absence of a servant leadership mentality, which significantly reduces the impact of these organizations. What We Need 👐 We need individuals in our society who genuinely care about the well-being of others. Leaders should be proactive, going on the ground to ensure that the resources they sponsor reach the intended recipients. It’s crucial to bring professionals with a servant-hearted approach into the space of CSI. Let’s work together to foster a culture of genuine commitment and servant leadership in CSI. Community service has always been a personal passion of mine. Four years ago, amidst the challenges of Covid-19, Mawande Molosi founded an NGO in Stellenbosch (Uplifting Job Seekers). Our main objective is to support job seekers who lack skills and motivation. Every quarter, we organize Job Fairs on Saturdays, facilitating connections between job seekers and potential employers.
