I love animation. I always have and I always will. One of my favorite shows these days is most definitely #Bluey. It's vibrant, funny and wholesome every single episode. And yes, I watch it with the little one but honestly, I'm much more invested than he is. I was reminded yesterday about one of the episodes I love most: Camping. Why do I love it so much you ask? Well, because it's about communication between two people that don't speak the same language and are still able to connect at a fundamental level. While on a camping trip with her family, Bluey meets Jean-Luc who's #French. They spend days playing together and it's incredible to see that bond light up so quickly and intensely making it seems as though there's no language barrier. What's also pretty neat about the #dub, is that if you change the audio to French, Jean-Luc will be the #English speaker instead. You've probably noticed similar situations if you watch dubbed content in your original language and there's a character that speaks it in the original version. More likely than not the languages will be switched, like in the example above, as it's a simple solution to culturally adapt the content effectively without taking anything (or at least much) away. However, one interesting counterexample is Buzz Lightyear's "#Spanish mode" in Toy Story 3. In this case, because it's not just about #language, the Latin American dub keeps the Spanish and it still works because of the cultural distance between #LatAm and #Spain. It's interesting to note that although they kept the accent, the voice actor is different and leans more into certain pronunciation of words, like "me he desperta'o" instead of "me he despertado". This gives much more of a natural vibe for Spanish speakers as a whole. So what's the lesson here? 1. Business-wise: when localizing and adapting the voices of characters it's important to not only consider the language switch but also the cultural background and expectations, especially when the character itself might have certain mannerisms that tie him to a certain language in one way or another. 2. Human-wise: #kindness is universal and you can connect with others even if you don't speak the same language. It'll be hard most of the times, but it's wonderful and extremely rewarding when it happens. See you tomorrow!

*More energy, more energy, more footwork, more footwork* ✨ In a normal 9 - 5 job, we get to the office (or login online), have a bit of a chin wag during the morning meeting, talk about what you did on the weekend etc. But how well do you actually know your colleagues? Sometimes you find out information about your teammates and all of a sudden it's like they have a secret life outside of work 👀 For example: I've spent the last 7 weeks obtaining my Group Exercise Leader Certificate from the Australian Institute of Fitness, so that I can work as a Zumba Instructor (again) at a gym. So when I'm not doing photoshoots, creating content for meta ads, designing new EDMs and making funny videos — I'm leading a dance class and making a bunch of people laugh and smile. I've met colleagues in the past who have been ballet teachers, DnD game masters, and musicians who play gigs at the local pub. Introducing Tuken, a platform where anyone who is passionate about dancing, can! We've all heard of self-taught gymnasts, but what about dancers? Not everyone can afford the time or money needed to take lessons from professional instructors in-person. Tuken is a combination of Kendal Kenemore and my last name. We both have been dancing together following youtube videos for about 2 years and just thought there must be a better way for us to improve technique. There must be other people that are trying to self-learn but need more guidance. That's why we offer both dancers and dance instructors to register an account and offer instructors the chance to get certified and hold classes that are available to everyone on the platform. We also host dance-offs, speaker events, prizes, and so much more! It was my idea to implement computer vision because it's just hitting the market and I thought it would be a cool perspective to hit if it works out. This feature can be added as a practice feature that dancers can use to make their practice more efficient. We do have 6 weeks to try, fail, try again, and who knows? If it succeeds, not only will we have formed a community of self-taught dancers, we will also be able to form a community of people who can start, learn, and finish things themselves. Some people prefer guaranteed guidance; which many paid programs offer but some people just like to try something, maybe fail, rise back up, succeed, and gain so much experience throughout the entire process. BALLET BEGINNERS - ADULTS AND CHILDREN. DOES AGE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?   Very different approach teaching a 5 or 13 or 30 year old beginner but basics have to be taught in any subject and at any age. I work on the premise that all beginners are every bit as clever as I am. The only difference being, I have had a longer time to acquire specific information and apply that knowledge. After considering what I have to say you can decide for yourself. Body requirements. You will be physically using your body to create your Moving Work of Art. Priority will be to understand how a body, yours in particular, is constructed and works. All human bodies are similar but not the same like jigsaw puzzles. Mental Requirements Your aim is to acquire strength and flexibility, the same as for physical requirements. Developing a good memory , spacial awareness and musical appreciation are essential. Learning to use your eyes and ears constantly and accurately. Minds develop in different ways dependent on nutrition, culture and climate, family influences plus many other factors. Desire to dance.   Besides the many and varied reasons children and adults attend ballet classes there must be a desire to exert yourself physically and mentally and in time to the music. To repeat and repeat and repeat. It is not aimed at keeping you fit and losing weight but is superb exercise . It is not a social gathering but dancers do bond with each other. Time availability Making sure you have enough time to commit to attending class regularly to achieve a positive outcome. My Opinion There is very little difference between teaching an Adult Beginner and a Child Beginner. It is a matter of scale and adapting content to ability in age appropriate manner.   Physically and mentally one has to work carefully and slowly with dancers, steering and guiding them to take control of their own aeroplane as they take flight into dance.

🎵 TAKE IT EASY 🎵 EVERYTHING worth doing is hard before it is easy. ⭐ I homeschooled both my kids through high school. 19 years of homeschooling total. Was it easy? Heck no! Was it worth it? Absolutely! ⭐I returned to dance (ballet, tap, clogging) after I was married and had kids. Was it easy? Um, no. LOL Ballet is my first love when it comes to dance, clogging I found somewhat easy because it has a rhythm I can relate to. Tap does not come easily to me. At all. But I found it engaging because it challenged me. ⭐I entered Grad School 20 years after I graduated with my Bachelors of Science degree. Was that easy? Are you kidding? I literally had to look up about every fourth word just to figure out what the professor and other students were talking about! Plus, even though it was only one class, that class literally took about 20 hours a week to get all the assignments and reading done. And I was homeschooling! ✅ I'm not sure I can say that homeschooling every became easy or easier for me but I learned to go with the natural flow that ours had. And I did enjoy the flexible schedule and amazing field trips! ✅ I'm glad I returned to dance. It was hard work for sure, but did get easier. Especially when I decided to solely focus on ballet. I put in the hours and the work, and the hard stuff became easier...until I went en pointe at the age of 45! But that's another story for another day. ✅ Despite the grueling schedule of Grad School, I LOVED it! I loved the subject matter. Unfortunately, the stress of everything (life, school, homeschooling, worry, etc) took me out medically and then financially, so I had to withdraw. Will I go back? Maybe. But I'd want to go back to the same subject matter and that's not my focus right now. All this to say, don't be afraid of the hard stuff. Don't be afraid of the unknown. I've heard this quote more than once: "If you want to do something, say yes, and then figure it out along the way." Don't let your dreams continue to elude you because you don't know how it's going to work out. EVERYthing is hard before it becomes easy.

Personal Story Time: Momentum and Jumps My ballet teacher would often give us analogies to help us understand how to execute the steps. As we are coming into Nutcracker Season, I was reminded of this lesson she taught us about momentum and jumps. “Think about how a car uses gas. 🚗 As soon as a car comes to a stop, it needs to use more gas to start back up. But if it doesn’t completely stop, it is easier to keep the car moving in the same direction with less gas. Your energy is like that fuel. You need more energy to jump from a stopping point. But as soon as you use the momentum from the previous steps to fuel your upcoming jump, you will leap higher and further.” 🔹 🔹 🔹 🔹 This is a lesson I have taken far beyond my jumping technique. Not only have I used this in my personal life, but it has helped in my business more times than I can count. It’s all about momentum As an artistic director, it is important to remember how much momentum can help you achieve the goals you want. When you start and stop on your marketing strategies for your school, you wind up with inconsistent results. And this is super frustrating… But as soon as you start making consistent effort towards your marketing, you will see the results start to compound.
