A poignant and thought-provoking urbanest Communities session yesterday on ‘Balancing Family and Career’. HR Consultant and author Debra Corey spoke about what balance looks like and 14 steps to master the art of balance. Facilitated by our Learning & Development partner Bridget Stanley, we also heard from a panel of our very own urbanest colleagues; Cameron Regis (Talent Acquisition & Engagement Partner), Cathy Ramsden (Group Tax Manager), and Joanne Mckenzie (Customer Support Assistant) on their personal balance journeys, and some top tips for us all moving forwards. A deeply engaging event on a topic that affects our own individual wellbeing in different ways. Thank you to the team at urbanest Westminster Bridge for hosting us, and we look forward to our next urbanest Communities event in early 2025!

Let's chat about each of the seven dimensions of well-being 🌱 We'll start with cultural well-being. Local park and recreation agencies have the power to foster growth, learning, and belonging through... 🌱Community events and celebrations 🌱Visual and performing arts 🌱Cultural relevancy and humility When culturally relevant spaces, programs and services are provided, community members, including staff, develop a sense of belonging, inclusion and appreciation. They embrace, celebrate and value the identities, traditions and experiences of others. This also creates a practice of cultural humility, a dynamic and lifelong process focusing on self-reflection, personal critique and acknowledging one's own biases. Park and recreation professionals, every day, support community health and well-being across seven interconnected dimensions. Follow along as we dive into each of these dimensions in the weeks to come. As a passionate leader in senior living, I am always striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the residents and the team members who support them. As a senior living leader, I am deeply committed to enhancing the quality of life for residents while providing strong support to my team. I believe that a thriving community is built on collaboration, open communication, and a shared vision where every voice is heard. It is essential to ensure that every aspect of the community reflects a sense of home, where residents and staff feel valued and engaged. My focus is on delivering personalized care to each resident, meeting their individual needs, and encouraging them to stay active and involved in their daily lives. I am dedicated to supporting a wide range of activities and life enrichment programs that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. These programs help residents maintain a high quality of life while fostering a strong sense of community. I work closely with the healthcare team to manage day-to-day operations, oversee staffing, and ensure that the community is in full compliance with all regulations. Maintaining strong relationships with families and the broader community is also a priority. I take great pride in walking through the halls, engaging with both residents and staff, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated. My goal is to create an environment where residents, staff, and families alike feel safe, connected, and truly at home. #SeniorLiving #Leadership #AssistedLiving #Activities #LifeEnrichment #TeamLeadership #AgingInPlace #WorkplaceCulture #EmpathyInLeadership

Cities and New Habits for the New Year: Building a Better Future for Employees and Citizens As we usher in a new year, cities around the globe are uniquely positioned to embrace fresh habits and initiatives that promote the well-being of both employees and citizens. Urban centers are the beating heart of economic, cultural, and social activity, and they have the potential to lead by example in fostering positive change. From innovative workplace policies to community-driven projects, here are some ways cities can create a brighter and more sustainable future. 1. Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being: Be sure your employees have easy and confidential access to mental health professionals. Encourage flexible work policies. 2. Championing Sustainability and Green Initiatives: bike lanes, multi purpose paths and recycling. 3. Prioritizing Inclusive Urban Planning: develop third place hubs for citizens and employees to collaborate and work. 4. Fostering Lifelong Learning and Skill Development: encourage continuing education plans and partner with local higher education to provide training. 5. Strengthening Community Bonds: organize volunteer programs, start a city 101 program to teach your citizens about their local government. By adopting these new habits and embracing innovative solutions, cities can become healthier, greener, and more inclusive spaces for everyone. Let this year mark the beginning of a transformative journey toward urban excellence.

🌈 DEI in the Home Improvement Industry Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is gaining momentum in the home improvement sector, with leaders like Wickes in the UK and OBI in Europe fostering inclusive workplaces and supporting diverse communities. Gen Z and Generation Alpha view DEI as essential, valuing it as a core principle rather than a corporate checkbox. However, some brands, like Tractor Supply in the U.S., have recently scaled back DEI commitments, sparking debates on its role in business. For forward-thinking companies, DEI isn’t just a trend—it’s crucial for attracting talent and maintaining customer loyalty in today’s diverse world. 🌟 Bringing My Kids to Work🌟 Today was a special day as I brought my kids to work with me for the first time at one of my clients, Woodside. Woodside has created an incredible space for working parents, allowing us to balance our professional and personal lives seamlessly. Having the option to work while my kids are entertained was a wonderful new experience. It highlighted how challenging it can be for parents to manage work, school holidays and family responsibilities, but also how forward-thinking companies like Woodside embrace the true meaning of diversity and inclusion. I've always worked in a professional environment and kept my family life separate, but today I was able to merge these two worlds. I attended in-person and online meetings in a space that brought my professional and personal lives together. This experience was not only rewarding for me but also for my kids, who got a glimpse into what I do for work. It was heartwarming to share this with them. Work-life balance, diversity, and inclusion are more important than ever in 2024. Companies like Woodside and my employer, Programmed, lead the way in supporting working parents by offering flexible working arrangements and promoting an inclusive culture. Thank you, Woodside, for providing such a supportive environment for working parents. Here's to more workplaces embracing these values and making a positive impact on their employees' lives. #WorkLifeBalance #DiversityAndInclusion #WomenInLeadership #UnconsciousBias #WorkingParents #Woodside #programmedtraining #ProgrammedTrainingProfessionals #thankyou Woodside Energy Programmed Training Services
