The paper in the repost clearly shows why the Tripping JIP is initiated. Joao Baltazar, Bart Schuiling and Maarten Kerkvliet stress that transition modelling in RANS has too many limitations to build a sound methodology to conquer scale effects. The approach as proposed by the Tripping JIP avoids transition modelling and laminar flow. Instead, the flow on the model scale propellers is tripped such that standard RANS computations without any tuning can be used to identify the scale effects which much higher certainty. #NuTTS2023 #laminar #turbulent #RANS #tripping #uncertainty

We paired a variable area exhaust nozzle with an active disturbance rejection control. Why? Interesting addendum...the fundamentals of thermal interface materials connect back to research on aluminum propellants and multi-modal particle packing that was derived from the #NASA space program. So it really wouldn't be a stretch to say that our "solutions for inverter overheating" are directly connected to these issues that plagued the original space missions, and no doubt earlier as well. #thermalmanagement keeps things interesting.
