Infrastructure - it is a hot topic of public conversation at the moment. Most people want better infrastructure and are keen to talk about how we get it, especially as many Councils are currently engaging over their long term plans. Here are some tips from our research about how to reframe infrastructure in order to inspire deeper conversations: ⭐ Keep reframing infrastructure away from just 'rubbish, rates and roads.' This framing limits what people think about when they hear 'infrastructure.' ⭐ Talk about infrastructure being how Councils support us all to live better lives, providing the connective tissue between the people and the places we love. ⭐ Consider using the 'infrastructure of care, connection and contribution' frame which helps people see infrastructure more broadly, including safe places, good ways to get around, opportunities to participate and the provision of reliable information. Our free guide 'How to talk about government....' gives more details on helpful ways of talking about government and their role in creating long term public good. Get in touch (hello@thworkshop.org.nz) if you'd like one of the team to come and talk more about this strategic reframe.
