🚀 Big news for the Royal Air Force! ✈️ The RAF is set to order 27 more F-35B Lightning II jets, bolstering its fleet to 74 by the end of the decade. This move strengthens our carrier-enabled power projection and supports the formation of a third frontline squadron by 2033. The timing is critical as our aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, require robust fighter support. The Army Ranger Wing is taking decisive steps to restructure its supply chain strategy for increased efficiency, implementing a more collaborative approach, and granting more autonomy with better structure. Currently, they operate as a single unit, but now they are set to be divided into three smaller units: Land, Air, and Maritime. These units will be positioned strategically based on their skills, ensuring faster deployment and heightened efficiency. Through a more centralised reporting structure, the Directorate of Special Operations will be directly involved in planning operations, which marks a significant departure from the current approach. This new collaborative approach aligns with EU thinking, allowing for more autonomy within these units. However, it makes sense for the chain to function effectively and without error, ensuring that decisions align with stakeholder expectations from the ground up. Moving from a lean to an agile method allows for a faster response. They are fully dressed in the Crew Ready Room, which are next to the hangars, a hardened aircraft shelter known informally as Q-sheds, which houses the interceptor aircraft. Between the 1970s to early 1990s, the Phantom protected the airspace surrounding the UK. This Interceptor was replaced by the Tornado F3. USAF Aircraft Maintenance leading the way! To put this achievement in perspective, this particular aircraft has flown an equivalent of 1.6 hours every single weekday for the entirety of its 35 years in service! However, this impressive achievement stands in the shadow of evolving and increasing challenges like national budget constraints, manpower recruitment and retention, parts availability and supply chains to keep an aging fleet competitive while we balance National Defense with allied partner support.... While the future of this airframe is in question, LUCKY hitting 15,000 hours shows the continuous capabilities of our Force Generation Airmen to uphold the integrity and reach of the Strike Eagle.

The lineup of personnel required to maintain a single Avro Lancaster from RAF Bomber Command is organized as follows: 🔳 First Row: The aircraft's crew, which includes the pilot, navigator, bomb aimer, flight engineer, wireless operator/air gunner, and two air gunners. 🔳 Second Row: The maintenance crew, consisting of twelve flight maintenance personnel, including non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and various mechanics responsible for the aircraft's upkeep. 🔳 Third Row: The ordnance crew, featuring a bombing-up team led by a Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) tractor driver, along with crew members responsible for loading munitions. 🔳 Fourth Row: The ground servicing crew, which includes a corporal mechanic, aircraft mechanics, an engineer officer, fitters, armourers, and other specialists who ensure the aircraft is operational and ready for missions. How do we get pilots and Air crew to swing for the fences to get the mission done? We learn to speak their language, we let them know we have flown a mile in their jet, helicopter, in their NVG, in their gear that pulls them forward so they have a headache when they’re done. This my first flight over Whidbey Island. This is flying over Glacier Peak in WA State, from the famous mission scene in TOPGUN Maverick. I remember when CVWP put me forward to AirBoss Whitesell for Project Specialist NATOPS designation so I could go for a ride in the jet. To get the exposure and understanding I needed, we needed more than one flight. It took more than six dunks in the Dunker, blinded, different positions. We did it. My coaches pushed me across the finish line. Our mission of “putting the provider through the pain of the aviator to provide better interventions” would have many peaks and valleys ahead. John P. When a pilot used to hurt flying says to me, “Doc, I still do those exercises anytime I hurt, and I don’t have pain.“ That keeps me motivated. That gets me out of bed in the morning. What’s the solution? 1. Be able to provide help that actually helps. 2. Have the backs, literally and figuratively, of the flight line and fleet. 3. Eliminate risk when seeking help. Robbin Laird's latest book with Ed Timperlake (former USMC fighter pilot) captures the evolution of the USMC Marine and Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1). Australian Army Aviation's history too has overlapped with MAWTS. https://lnkd.in/gUU2dZxU Like US Navy's 'Top Gun' school, MAWTS grew out of air experiences in Vietnam. Commissioned in 1978 in Yuma Arizona, MAWTS sought to provide a cadre of USMC fighter and helicopter instructors specialist in weapons and tactics. While Red Flag is well known for pitting RAAF fighters against modern threats, Australian Army has built on the relationship established through MRF-D rotations in Darwin - with further USMC exchanges and exercises. Notable was a 2021 deployment Ex Griffin Eagle, which put Tiger pilots through the MAWTS Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course. https://lnkd.in/gB_sDgz9 (hint: ignore the title alluding to 'RAAF Tigers') USMC and Australian Army share a similar expeditionary construct when it comes to operations across Australia or in the maritime IndoPacific. Army pilots have flown exchange tours on the AH-1Z 'Viper' attack helicopter. The WTI provided further exposure to 'complex scenarios and large-scale, aviation-focused mission sets incorporated into the ground force scheme of manoeuvre'. Like the USMC, Australian Army is increasingly preparing for amphibious operations, as part of an ADF Joint Force similar to the USMC MAGTF. Working with USMC units provides insights on how to more effectively integrate attack helicopters off a sea-borne platform such as the LHDs. Of course, the Tigers are in their twilight now, to be replaced by AH-64E Apache from 2025. Whilst USMC will continue to rotate through Darwin with H-1 and MV-22B aircraft, we might expect to see more US Army deployments downunder, with Blackhawks, Apache - and ultimately US Army's Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA). The training conditions in Australia and the littorals will be increasingly important as US Army pivots alongside USMC to a more maritime battlespace.
