On Tuesday I played two competitions at the same time. Before the "purists" come on saying "you can't do that, that's not in the rules", we did - we allow it in our golf society, and have done for years (even though I prefer not to when I can). One was a normal golf competition - 20 players, stableford, all playing against the course, best score wins. The other, matchplay - playing against one other person, quarter final, least shots per hole wins the hole, most hole wins, wins. A bit like you see on the final day of the Ryder Cup. Which do you think I prefer? Playing the course and the field? Or playing the man? You know I'm competitive - so comment below, which format do you think I prefer?

“We MAKE our own LUCK!” “That’s right. And the more I PRACTICE , the luckier I get.” - 1961 book “The Devil to Pay” - “People MAKE their own LUCK by putting out everything they’ve got, and the more they put out, the more luck they have.” - Ethel Merman 1955 - “The MORE you KNOW, the more LUCK you have.“ - “The Burman: His Life and Notions” dated 1896 - “The HARDER he WORKS the LUCKIER he gets.” - Walter Winchell 1949 - https://lnkd.in/eDPvnJm6 ““The HARDER you WORK, the LUCKIER You Get.”” “This means that if you put in the effort, you're more likely to have things go your way. Not that luck isn't important, but hard work usually gets you to the point where luck can even come into play.” - “It turns out that luck plays a surprisingly big role in success. Some of the most successful people in the world are where they are because they’ve been lucky enough to have the right opportunities come their way. Of course, that’s not to say that hard work isn’t important. The fact is, the harder you work, the luckier you’re likely to get.” https://lnkd.in/ejHhqEbP Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston

In the spirit of the Olympics, let's discuss Steven Bradbury OAM from the 2002 Winter Olympics. In the final turn, of the final lap, one of the other skaters faulted, slipped and took out the remaining three skaters, leaving Bradbury to come through for the win. It was a quintessential tale which was both inspiring and aligned with Australian humour. The name became synonymous with resilience, tenacity and a bit of luck. What the story rarely acknowledges is the amount of damned effort it takes to get into the final race, for a gold medal, in a sport that your country is not commonly known for. How many tens of thousands of hours of training did it take to get in that race in the first place?... To my mind it proves that we make our own luck. It wasn't luck that got him in that race in the first place. #personaldevelopment

We all know there is no harder job in handball, or any other sport, than that of the referees. But what we do not know, is how the referees communicate on the court. How do they speak to the players? How do they speak to each other? What is the process they go through to reach correct decisions, especially in the modern era of video replays? How are those decisions explained to the players? Finally, we are able to find out, thanks to the new video series on YouTube that the EHF is proud to unveil; The Final Whistle. At EHF EURO 2024 in Germany, the referees were mic'd up for the first time at a major handball tournament. The Final Whistle, a five-episode series on the European Handball Federation YouTube channel, allows us to hear exactly what is being discussed on the court in the most crucial of moments. Each episode features a different match, providing an important insight into how elite level matches are officiated and a unique perspective into a match from its two most important people, both on-court and behind the scenes.
