In an essential training exercise aimed at enhancing readiness for wildfire emergencies, the New York Army National Guard practiced aerial water drops using Bambi Buckets this Monday. The training, part of an annual initiative by the state's MILITARY AND NAVAL AFFAIRS, NEW YORK DIVISION OF, took place at Colonie Town Park on North Schermerhorn Road. From noon to 4 p.m., helicopter crews demonstrated precision and skill as they skimmed the river’s surface to fill the Bambi Buckets, each holding 660 gallons of water, weighing nearly 2.8 tons, and then adeptly dropping the payload back into the river. This exercise is critical for preparing the crews to effectively combat wildfires by simulating the actual conditions and maneuvers used in fire suppression. The exercise zone was strategically set between the Twin Bridges and Route 9, ensuring a safe and controlled environment for the operation. The state’s Division of Military and Naval Affairs has planned additional sessions on the following days to ensure comprehensive training for all involved. Both pilots and ground crews participated in this operation, with ground crews handling the setup of the 260-pound orange collapsible buckets that are crucial in firefighting efforts. Forest rangers from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation also played a vital role, guiding the helicopter crews to simulate fire locations. This training underscores the collaborative efforts between the New York Army National Guard and the Department of Environmental Conservation to maintain a high state of readiness for wildfire responses. Maritime Security Bulletin and Advisory Re: A Fishing Vessel Has Sank Near the Falkland Islands Issued by: Sanborn Analytics Contact: outreach@sanbornanalytics.us, (+1)(617)539-6114 Date: July 24th, 2024 Incident: Fishing Vessel Sinking Near Falkland Islands Sanborn Analytics is issuing this maritime security bulletin and advisory to inform the maritime shipping community and armed naval forces at sea of a recent incident involving the fishing vessel Argos Georgia near the Falkland Islands. Information sourced from Maritime Executive (see link below) details the following: The Argos Georgia, a 160-foot freezer longliner, experienced severe flooding approximately 200 miles east of Port Stanley on July 22nd, 2024. The crew of 27 was forced to abandon the ship due to deteriorating conditions. Despite search and rescue efforts by British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI) aircraft, patrol vessels, and good Samaritan fishing vessels, harsh weather conditions hampered rescue operations. As of July 23rd, reports indicate eight fatalities, fourteen survivors, and five crew members remain missing. Recommendations: Mariners in the vicinity of the Falkland Islands are advised to exercise caution and maintain increased vigilance. Vessels are encouraged to report any relevant information regarding the missing crew members to the Falkland Islands authorities. Additional Information: The cause of the flooding in the Argos Georgia is currently unknown. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing. he Commission is mobilizing emergency support to Greece and Albania, both of which have activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in response to severe wildfires. The European Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) has immediately mobilized both aerial and ground firefighting resources from several European countries that are part of the Civil Protection Mechanism to assist Greece. This support includes 2 rescEU firefighting planes from Italy, a rescEU helicopter from France and a helicopter offered by Serbia. Additionally, ground firefighting teams are deployed from Czechia, France, Italy, Serbia and Romania, while Romanian, Maltese and Moldovan firefighters, already prepositioned in Greece, were among the first responders battling the fires in Greece. The support for Albania includes 1 multipurpose military plane from Romania with a capacity of 6 tons of water. The plane will be deployed on 14 August. Last week, the US #CoastGuard's #OceanGate hearings detailed macabre hypotheses of final moments as well as maddening descriptions of willful ignorance. #Safety is not another priority that tussles for operational attention and resources. Safety is the prerequisite for any venture, business or otherwise. The #Titan submersible tragedy should haunt leaders who shortchange safeguards and safety standards whenever they squeeze toothpaste in front of the mirror. Might you have a Stockton Rush in your life, one who blatantly defies conventional safety wisdom, or genuinely believes s/he can do no wrong? As we await another week of recollection and revelation, perhaps we can reflect on some of the lessons from this #Titanic misadventure:

According to preliminary estimates of the American authorities, removing the consequences of the collapse of the bridge in Baltimore may take some time and up to 10 years. It was previously reported that dismantling the destroyed structures and rebuilding the supports and spans could cost up to $3 billion, and if indirect damage to infrastructure and logistics is taken into account, the figures will rise to $70-80 billion over the coming years.
