The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA was a Declaration of Independence for people with disabilities, guaranteeing comprehensive rights, protections, and access to this large, diverse community. For an example of what an impact granting access by just installing curb cuts on public sidewalks has, check out the story of civil rights activist and pioneer Ed Roberts (https://lnkd.in/eMc_e-R). Thirty years after the signing of the ADA, there are still numerous challenges faced by persons with disabilities when it comes to accessing employment, public spaces, and public services – and still lots of work to be done to address the more subtle ways in which people with disabilities face inequality. But on this date, we celebrate the signing of the ADA, which works with unprecedented scope to prevent discrimination against individuals with disabilities, as well as provide a recourse for them when discrimination occurs. Find out how you can celebrate, learn about, and share this day: https://lnkd.in/gx4wMTZ https://lnkd.in/gz-n8YsY #ThanksToTheADA #DisabilityPride #usfn
