In a strategic move that could reshape the global semiconductor landscape, Japan is doubling down on its commitment to revive its silicon industry. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Rapidus, a Japanese semiconductor startup, are at the heart of this ambitious endeavor. TSMC, the world's leading contract chipmaker, which is already building its first factory in Japan has announced plans to establish a second chip factory in Japan, which will bolster Japan's chip-making capabilities and be critical in the country's economic growth. Rapidus is making waves by attracting chipmakers, suppliers, and research institutions to the island of Hokkaido, and in partnership with IBM and Imec (a European chip research organization), plans to mass-produce cutting-edge chips there starting from 2027. The new chip factories will produce chips for diverse applications, including automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, high-performance computing, and of course AI. As the demand for semiconductors continues to soar globally, Japan's revival could have ripple effects across industries and economies. Let's keep an eye on Japan's journey toward silicon supremacy. China's Chip Production Capacity Has Jumped In The World's First, Causing New Changes In The Global 🔝 ☯In the fierce competition in the global technology industry, the Chinese chip industry officially jumped to the world's first in the world with its amazing development speed and huge capacity scale. This milestone achievement not only excites domestic, but also has attracted widespread attention and heated discussion globally. The rise of the industry, independent innovation becomes the key ☯In recent years, the Chinese chip industry has experienced a historic leap from scratch, from weak to strong. With the country's high attention and strong support for scientific and technological innovation, Chinese chip companies have achieved significant results in independent innovation. From R & D investment to technological innovation, from product application to marketing, Chinese chip companies are gradually building a complete industrial chain and ecosystem.Especially in key core technologies, Chinese chip companies have achieved leapfrog development from follow -up and running, to leading. ☯ In this process, government policies have played a vital role in promoting. In order to accelerate the development of the chip industry, the Chinese government has introduced a series of support policies and preferential measures to encourage enterprises to increase research and development investment, introduce advanced technology, and cultivate innovative talents. The government also actively builds a platform for industry -university -research cooperation to promote in -depth cooperation between enterprises and universities and scientific research institutions to jointly overcome technical problems...... 🔄Learn more:https://lnkd.in/dRM4Ar24 #semiconductors #integratedcircuits #electroniccomponents #storage #ai #ems #oemfactory #icchips #icchip #automotive #aerospace #industrial #medicalcare #energy #military #hardware #5g #consumerelectronics #chinamanufacturer

The rise of Semiconductor Power Players - India and Japan (Part 2/2) Rising from Lost Glory: Nippon In the last post I shared how India is slowly taking huge leaps in its semiconductor industry trying to partner with QUAD players to create its own semiconductor manufacturing hubs from this year. More on this here -> https://lnkd.in/gWQZ8w4d Working at the intersection of India-Japan one of my key focus is to create win-win solutions for both countries and it is in this regard I was intrigued to chart out Japan's motivation behind helping India when it is reviving its own industry from the ashes (In 1989, Japan accounted for six out of the top 10 global chipmakers. As of 2023, none of the top 10 chipmakers by revenue were Japanese.) Here are some key developments for Japan https://lnkd.in/gZGj-98R 1. TSMC (biggest chip manufacturing player)just opened its first Japanese manufacturing plant in Kumamoto and is planning to open a second - nearing roughly $20 billion in investment in Kumamoto alone (Japan's Silicon Island) 2. Rapidus - a startup consortium (Toyota, Sony, NTT) started in 2022 has also weighed in to revive Japan's industry and produce 2nm at large scale with strong backing from the Japanese govt. However Rapidus is facing shortage of engineers and knowhow and is sending its engineers to IBM US to acquire knowhows https://lnkd.in/gTkHCXJM 3. US players such as Micron have also jumped in to help Japan to bring innovative technologies with subsidies from local government https://lnkd.in/g3Er4dYZ Whats interesting is these are the same players (except TSMC) which are also helping India in recreating India's ecosystem from scratch. There seems to be a alliance of India-Japan-US (all quad partners) to boost each others semiconductor ecosystem and supply chain as China-Taiwan issue becomes a risk for global semiconductor market. Japan also stands to gain from Indian talent workforce (20% of global talent workforce is in India) once its fabs are set up- interesting how this is a win-win diplomatic mechanism at place. Geopolitics are at the heart of business and the world is indeed listening to the 'Bharat Way' Observer Research Foundation ICRIER India Semiconductor Mission Japan Bank for International Cooperation https://lnkd.in/gZGj-98R
