As the summer comes to a close, we are starting to say goodbye to our wonderful interns! We've had an amazing time having them and we wanted to hear all about the time they spent here. Take a peek at what they've been doing all summer! Next up Stella Shanker, who interned with our Geographic Information System (GIS) team!
Q: What is one thing you learned from your internship at Montgomery Parks?
A: "I learned how to interpret as-built surveys and use them to make an educated guess on where park utilities are located. Knowing where things should be on the map makes it a lot easier to ground truth utilities when you go out in the field."
Q: What is your proudest accomplishment/moment from your internship?
A: "Finding new utilities for a park that's assumed to be complete is always a good feeling. Our parks system is more extensive than I ever could've imagined, so triple checking each park is a necessity."
Q: What was your favorite experience?
A: "I really enjoyed meeting the other interns and M-NCPPC staff at the intern celebration. It was a quality event--there was a trumpet performance and even cookies with the Montgomery Parks logo on them."
Q: Any advice for new interns?
A: "If you don't understand something, try and get your questions answered as soon as possible so you don't have doubts over the course of the entire internship. I felt a little vulnerable at first asking a bunch of questions, but it made me feel way more confident for the rest of my time at M-NCPPC."
We’re excited to have Jessica intern with the UST HealthProof Corporate Communications team! Welcome!
