Magnesium is — A drone construction material! #Magnesium based materials can become an essential part of design concepts of UAV’s, especially if flight maneuvers require high rigidity and noise pollution become critical decision criteria. Also crash-worthiness is an aspect where magnesium has benefits. The authors are convinced that the economic advantages of using magnesium based materials in drone construction may be further increased if promising techniques such as e.g., performing sheet metal hydroforming by means of UHPC dies are applied. As compared to CFRP and related composite materials, magnesium based materials can be easier separated and recycled once the UAV’s reached the end of its service-life. Drone Survey Bara Multipurpose Dam Project

Founded in 2016 by Johns T Mathai and Kannappa Palaniappan P, the company has introduced India’s first commercial underwater drone, EyeROV (IROV TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED) TUNA, which promises to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in underwater operations. The traditional methods of maintaining and inspecting underwater infrastructure, such as dams, bridges, and oil pipelines, have long been fraught with significant challenges. These tasks have often been risky, costly, and time-consuming, necessitating manned dives that pose inherent safety concerns and logistical complexities. ZECK's 40 ton (!) PULLER-TENSIONER installed the ropes of the new ZERMATT-FURRI CABLE CAR (Switzerland).  The tensioning process in ropeway construction poses special challenges. Terrain and altitude, extreme weather conditions, environmental concerns and safety requirements demand the highest precision and customized solutions that leave the smallest possible footprint on nature.  Drawing on our expertise with power lines, we’ve developed a series of high-capacity Puller-Tensioners specifically for ropeway and cable car construction. Similar to commercial aircraft, these machines feature up to 5-fold redundancy of the most important systems. For easier transportation to high altitudes the large hydraulic aggregates stand separate from the large 2,400mm bull wheels.  The AURO “aerial tramway” is the first of its kind in the world. Throwback Thursday - SeaCat AUV employed for Tunnel Inspection This remains a remarkable feat. 11 years ago the Atlas Elektronik SeaCat AUV successfully inspected a 25 km long underground water tunnel network known as the 'Albstolle' tunnel. The diameter of the underground tunnel was 2.25m. The SeaCat AUV has the ability to operate either remotely controlled or fully autonomously.  "For the first 300 metres, the SeaCat was controlled through a laptop via a fibre-optic cable. After the vehicle had passed several obstacles in the first section, the cable was cut and the autonomous guidance system was activated to take control for the next 7 hours and 24 kilometres. The speed was about a metre per second, corresponding about 2 knots or 3.6 km/h." A tunnel inspection head that allows recording high-resolution video data over the total length of the tunnel was employed. The hybrid nature of SeaCat with its dual modes of control (remotely or autonomously) paired with the SeaCat swappable head technology provides enhanced flexibility. Both features combine to make it ideal to support not only marine survey roles but also infrastructure inspections including those related to Humanitarian Disaster Assistance. "The 'Albstolle' tunnel forms part of the water supply system operated by Bodensee-Wasserversorgung (BWV) with headquarters in Stuttgart. As the largest German long-distance water distribution systems, it provides fresh water from Lake Constance to four million people in 320 communities. As one of two main lines, the Albstollen passes through the Swabian Jura range to supply Stuttgart and the northern part of Baden-Württemberg." #SeaCat #AUV #SwappableHeadTechnology #Flexibility #ThrowbackThursday
