Why do mangroves even matter? Mangroves matter because they act as natural barriers against coastal erosion and storm surges. In fact, studies have shown that mangrove forests can reduce wave height by up to 66% and storm surge height by up to 72%. That means less damage to coastal infrastructure and fewer costly repairs after hurricanes and tropical storms. #blueatlasproject #donate #fyp #helpingothers #makeadifference #malnutrition

Reaching to all who are eager to help folks in Western North Carolina. Do: Send money to any of the following relief sgencies: — North Carolina Community Foundation — Community Foundation of Western NC * Wine to Water — Samaritan’s Purse — United Way of North Carolina — American Red Cross – NC Chapter ** Mutual Aid Disaster Relief *Wine to Water provides easy cheap effective means for folks to transform contaminated water into potable drinking water (52 water systems are unable to provide water or services!) ** Mutual Aid Disaster Relief gets fuel to pilots—air is the only access to folks trapped in WNC. Don’t: Please don’t travel to Western NC unless asked by a municipality, county, state or federal agency, or reputable relief organization for specific needs. (Good-hearted trips by well-meaning folk risks impeding relief efforts. Any injuries or issues you may have takes away from getting aid to those who desperately need it.) #HurricaneHelene #fundraising #Health #ItTakesaVillage #DisasterRelief #LoveOneAnotherAsIHaveLovedYou #HurricaneHeleneRelief #WesternNorthCarolina

Farmers, rural communities, and frontline communities need emergency assistance, but also a safety net and long term federal programs that are realistic to building on farm resilience to #climatechange. Until we have a #FarmBill proposal that is adaptive, dynamic and makes the bold investments needed to respond to our #climatecrisis, we will always be underprepared and underesourced to face these challenges. Today we can donate to help our those in need, but long term and bold investments for #climateaction are necessary. https://lnkd.in/e3UJ7AU5

When Floods Rise, So Must Our Commitment to Water Safety... Floods are a constant threat to the people of Bangladesh, where rising waters don’t just devastate homes and livelihoods—they claim lives. Each year, families face the terrifying reality that the very waters sustaining their community can also be fatal. For too long, floods have overwhelmed us, but we have the power to fight back—with knowledge, with preparation, and with SwimSafe. This program doesn’t just teach children to swim; it equips them with the skills to survive in the water, to be resilient in the face of nature’s unpredictability. Every child trained through SwimSafe becomes one less victim to the floods, one more voice against the rising tide of water-related deaths. Please share our video and together we can help turn the tide and save more lives. #preventdrowning #Swimsafe #SaveLives #ClimateCrisis #FloodRelief #Charity #TransformingLives #SreepurVillage #Bangladesh

📢 The Premier's Department’s recent ‘Review of Emergency Volunteering’ is helping to lay a strong foundation for the future of the emergency volunteering sector. 📌 The Review of Emergency Volunteering made 13 recommendations for the State Emergency Management Committee and its member agencies to ensure we continue to meet the needs of communities during future disasters. 📌 Emergency volunteers of all types are essential in times of disaster, such as floods, fires, and storms. In recent years, we have seen the rate of informal community volunteering grow in response to disaster events like the 2019/2020 bushfires, and the 2022 Lismore Floods. 📌 A new $5 million grants program is being launched to acknowledge the changing patterns of volunteering and help these types of spontaneous volunteers to be better trained, equipped and coordinated. 👉 Reports 1 and 2 of the Review are now available. Join us on 29 August to hear disaster management experts from Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR), Multicultural Emergency Management Partnership (MEMP), Natural Hazards Research Australia (NHRA) and the Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) explain why we should all stop using the term "natural disaster", and much more.
