As school administrators, we have the power to make a lasting impact on our educators. One way to truly appreciate and recognize their hard work is by celebrating their stories and contributions to student success. ✨Here’s a simple yet powerful tip: Feature one educator each week throughout November, highlighting their inspiring story, dedication, and the positive impact they have on students. Not only does this boost teacher morale, but it also creates a culture of recognition that can inspire others. By shining a spotlight on educators, we show them that their efforts are valued and appreciated. Take the time to acknowledge their commitment to make a difference! #TeacherAppreciation #SchoolLeadership #EducatorImpact #GratitudeInEducation #SpringfieldLearning

BEING IN CLASSROOMS IS OUR SUPERPOWER: A Conversation with Patrick O’Connor, Principal, Park Orchard Elementary, Kent, WA Veteran Principal Patrick O’Connor shares what’s possible when your instructional leadership team is freed up enough to spend 20 hours every week in classrooms. What challenges did your school face coming out of the pandemic? Coming out of the pandemic we had so many students below grade level in reading and math, my leadership team and I felt nearly paralyzed by the size and scope of the problem. In a pre-K-5 school of 491 students, only 9% were at grade level in Math and 19% in reading. Nearly 50% of students were considered chronically absent. How did The Breakthrough Coach support you to deal with these challenges? The Breakthrough Coach Program taught me how to build school-wide structures and systems that freed up my time to address our learning loss challenges. For instance, I relinquished my calendar to my secretary and empowered her to schedule specific kinds of work days for me during the week. When she took on this responsibility, my leadership team and I started spending between 11 - 20 hours a week in classrooms watching teaching and learning in real time. Based on what we repeatedly observed, we then implemented effective interventions to meet our students’ needs and optimize growth. What’s been the outcome for your students, your staff and yourself? We are climbing out of the learning-loss hole created by the pandemic. We’ve raised our percentage of students on grade level in reading and math this past winter by 11%. Our spring assessment occurs next week and early evidence shows another potential double digit jump in gains. We have a plan to continue moving student achievement in the right direction, while also retaining highly competent staff and sustaining a positive, hope-filled school culture. My staff is empowered, students are once again succeeding, and I am maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I can say without hesitation that The Breakthrough Coach Program has been the most impactful professional development I’ve received in my tenure as principal, and our school is reaping the benefits. When we think of teachers, many of us envision those remarkable individuals from our school days—those who guided, nurtured, and shaped us during our formative years. As we grow older, we may find ourselves without that go-to person for advice, wisdom, or support. But should our learning ever stop? Absolutely not. We need teachers at every stage of life. Whether it's a mentor at work, a coach, or even a friend sharing their experiences, teachers come in many forms. As Albert Schweitzer said, "At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person." These educators inspire us, challenge us to grow, and help us become the best versions of ourselves. Remember how, as children, we would eagerly run to our teachers with every question, seeking comfort and guidance? Imagine if we maintained that same mindset throughout life—constantly learning, seeking, and evolving. As Mahatma Gandhi wisely noted, "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." Teachers help us see beyond our current understanding and open doors to new possibilities. On this Teachers' Day, let’s celebrate the idea that learning is a lifelong journey, and teachers are everywhere if we are willing to seek them out. Here’s to honoring the teachers of our past and embracing those of our present and future. They are the beacons that light our path, guiding us no matter where we are on our journey. As Henry Adams said, "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." #lifelonglearning #teachersday #HRinschools

It is with incredible delight that we #share with you an EXCEEDING result for Glen Education Edithvale Kindergarten, against National Quality Standards. Congratulations and thank you to everyone that has worked hard to make this outstanding result a reality – educators, leaders/managers, children, and families. While we are only at the beginning of our partnership together, we have already achieved so much as a dynamic team. We look forward to strengthening the work we do to make a difference in the lives of those within our community. A few highlights from the many wonderful examples of our exceeding practice from the Department of Education report: Children and Families: Children’s agency was supported through a learning environment that was structured to provide children with opportunities to make choices as to how they wished to participate in the program. Educational Team: Educators engaged in robust discussions during regular team meetings that informed the implementation of the curriculum. The educators spoke of the relationship between management and educators being supportive, respectful, and positive. Learning Environment: Embedded routines allowed time for children to engage in relaxed, unhurried interactions where they were able to direct their own play and learning together. Educators supported children to regulate their own behaviour and minimal conflicts were observed throughout the day, as children were engaged and required minimal guidance. Leadership: The provision of strong, operational leadership, with well-established governance arrangements and administrative processes, created a positive organisational culture that valued contribution from the whole team. #Congratulations #Grow #Learn #Empower #Nurture #GlenEd

Life skills go beyond textbooks 📚 — here’s how we’re bridging the gap. While textbooks provide the foundation for academic knowledge, they don’t prepare students for the real challenges they’ll face in life. From managing finances to building resilience, young people need more than just theory — they need practical, hands-on experiences that shape their ability to navigate the world beyond the classroom. At Youthhood 2 Adulthood (Y2A), we focus on bridging this critical gap. Through our tailored programs and workshops, we equip young people with essential life skills such as emotional intelligence, leadership, communication, and problem-solving—skills that will empower them to succeed, no matter the path they choose. By fostering a learning environment that extends beyond traditional education, we’re ensuring that young people have the confidence and competence to take on the challenges of adulthood. Want to help us make a lasting impact? Let’s collaborate to provide the next generation with the skills they need to succeed.
