Arle Court is a new build, 3-storey Mobility Hub, and is a key part of the multi-million-pound Golden Valley Development, which aims to create a ‘garden community’, integrating hi-tech business, residential and leisure uses with a digital-focused business park Cyber Central at its heart. Markham Global working with KIER Construction, delivered a zero-maintenance, guaranteed concrete deck waterproofing system for Gloucestershire County Council’s new mobility hub. Reinforced concrete decks are exposed to atmospheric conditions and vehicular traffic, requiring robust protection against water and chloride ingress and deterioration. The primary need was a durable waterproofing solution that protected the concrete from environmental damage, accommodating winter de-icing salts, and requiring minimal maintenance to ensure the decks remained functional through all seasons, for many years to come. The construction of the recently completed Arle Court Transport Hub involved Markham treating 23,000 square metres of concrete to waterproof the car parking decks and ground floor. The development is expected to become a major economic driver for Cheltenham and the surrounding area – something we are proud to be a part of. The project involved constructing multiple reinforced concrete decks, which would be subjected to harsh environmental conditions. These decks would face constant atmospheric exposure and heavy vehicular traffic, making them vulnerable to water ingress and deterioration. To ensure the decks remained safe for public use, our client needed a durable waterproofing solution that could withstand aggressive weather and winter maintenance. Take a look at the video below, of the demolition of the former St Kilda Care Home in Brixham, where the project is now fully in progress. Torbay Council have partnered with their main contractor, Classic Builders on this project, which is due to be finished in 2026 and will be let to local households aged 55 and over. Torbay Council utilised SWPA's Modern Methods of Construction New Homes (NH3) Framework for this particular project. This framework has been developed to provide an efficient, value for money procurement route for local authorities, social landlords and other public sector bodies for the offsite development of new residential buildings using modern methods of construction (MMC). As we are now in a crisis where we need millions of new homes built we maybe need to recognise that this power for demolition needs to be taken away from local councils. If you buy land or buy a property it's maybe time to just allow people to just build what they want? As long as it's safe and built properly that is all the council should be staying. We keep controling everyone to the degree that nothing is being built and nobody is maintaining the old buildings anymore. If the council want to preserve something for the public good, they can always buy it for themselves! Time to go back to the old ways. When you buy land or a house it's yours! If we carry on this stranglehold, we will all be living like sardines in housing that not fit for purpose. https://lnkd.in/eQPYNePX
