“If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” Sounds simple, right? But here's the thing - @Van Council, founder of Van Michael Salon embodies this adage. LIVED it. This hit differently after listening to the latest Growth Diaries podcast by Zenoti, where Sudheer Koneru sat down with Van Council, founder of Van Michael Salon. Started with $30K and a tiny salon and built it into this incredible business where people stay for 30+ years. In the beauty industry! That's unheard of. Mind you his longest tenure employee started at 19 years old. Three insights that struck me: People First Leadership: "If I take care of my staff, they'll take care of my clients." Van focused on benefits, training, and creating a workplace he'd want to work in. I have never heard of a saloon offering 401k and benefits, but Van made sure he offered this to this staff, we are talking 1984! Smart Growth Strategy: He only expands when salons hit $800-1000/sq ft in revenue and stays within 3-mile radius of existing locations. Brilliant! The Purple Cow Principle: In a sea of brown cows (average businesses), be the one that makes people stop and take notice. Specialization is key. Van shared something that hit home: "If I take care of my staff, they'll take care of my clients." Most powerful quote: "We have 45 minutes with every client, and we can really change their life." The 2024 Emilly Hadrill Salon Conference & Gala was held on the weekend of the 27th-29th July. Over the next few days I’ll be sharing some of the highlights from the awards evening that was presented to celebrate the high achievers of the year gone by. Our first day of the conference was focused on self branding, and the importance of upholding high standards within ourselves. The night before presenting, in a moment of reflecting on the content I was presenting - VASA came to me. The 4 pillars to succeeding and achieving goals both personally & professionally. Enjoy, share & keep kicking goals! VASA Vulnerability Accountability Solutions Action The 4 steps to growth, achieving your goals, and ensuring you are in line with approaching life both personally & professionally with integrity. Vulnerability isn’t being weak. It’s voicing your desires, it’s being clear with your intentions, and being responsible for choices that might not have been made now you have the hindsight. Accountability. Every choice has a consequence, You need to be willing in life to accept responsibility for the good, the bad, and the ugly. Be gentle on yourself. The only real mistake is the one we learn nothing from. Solutions. Taking a moment (my best ideas come when I’m in the shower as I’m not distracted) to think of what it’s going to take to achieve, fix or reach that goal. You’d be surprised at how much you know when you take a moment to think of options. Action. If you made a promise to a friend or colleague, you wouldn’t let them down. So make yourself a promise and don’t let yourself down. Do you what you need to do to live the life you deserve.

Hala Dean, Erin Moriarty, Starlet F., Chris McLoone #LDP2024 As this year comes to an end, and my 3rd year with Clarion Events Inc. - North America (which I can't even believe) I reflect on what a truly amazing ride it's been. When you think about success, collaboration, ideation and growth; it truly "takes village", "there is no "I" in team", "teamwork makes the dream work". I could go on and on with more catchy little clichés but I'm sure you get the idea. What I've learned over the last 3 years is that success is built with a foundation of go getters, a group that's deeply passionate about what they do, how they do it AND they do it together, because we're better together. Working within Clarion Fire & Rescue Group our work truly makes a difference, the passion we put forward daily impacts so many individuals. FDIC International is a one-of-a-kind event, it's electrifying and nothing short of amazing. Blessed to have fallen into this industry and now I can't imagine being anywhere else. Sales, fulfillment, production, editorial, leadership; we work in lockstep because we are all the boots on the ground to super serve our audience and customers not just at the show but all year long. As we head into 2025, my mantra will be "how can I help"? We should always look to our teammates and ask this. I would not be where I am today without the supportive and deep relationships that I have with each team member. Their help shaped my success; which shapes OUR success which is truly the goal, because after all there is NO "I" in team.

Escalate your Gratitude 💖 For much of my career my focus was on ensuring that the people in the business that I perceived as more important than me were “happy”. Whether it was a line manager, the founder of the business or a shareholder. When I started Visiting Angels in the UK I wanted to flip that script. I had recognised through my time in social care that care workers are often overlooked and unfortunately regularly underestimated. We started Visiting Angels we had a clear vision to be carer centric – to put carers first. Our mission from the beginning has been to “redefine the role of carers in society”. We want everyone to better understand how awesome caregivers are and by everyone we also mean the carers themselves. This video is from our annual conference and it is the highlight of my year. I have the perfect privilege of standing on stage in front of our entire network and sharing the gratitude that we have for the amazing individuals and teams who make our business work. We celebrate our franchisees, we celebrate their registered care managers and we recognise, applaud and show gratitude to the caregivers. I have gone from seeking validation from my acts of service to a gratitude junkie needing his fix of giving thanks and showing love. Many of the carers that we recognise throughout the year or with our gala dinner have had little or no workplace recognition in the past. It is a humbling experience to see our franchisees and their managers right that wrong. 💥 How important is gratitude to you? 💥 Do you agree it is better to give than to receive? If you see a carer working in the next few days or weeks, please thank them for their service.
