Yesterday I was thrilled to have the opportunity to present with Shootin' the Breeze to Pincher Creek’s Women in Business committee on marketing and promotion on a budget. ─── When I started with Shootin’ the Breeze in 2020 I was brought on as a marketing and editorial assistant, and I had the privilege of heading new marketing projects and generating tailor-made content to promote local businesses. Getting to work with business owners who were so passionate about their work and their products taught me a lot about the value of building connections through sharing one’s journey, vocation, and expertise. Local businesses make up not only the economy of a community, but also its personality, priorities, and amenities. We are so lucky to have such rich expertise involved in the businesses here, and we know as a newspaper that community wants to hear from and learn from their local experts. From my time collaborating on and heading up special sections such as Celebrating Women, Bride’s Guide, Embrace Summer, Explore Southwestern Alberta, and others, I’ve seen first-hand the benefits of local expertise. It's our 5th wedding anniversary today! 🥳 From the first day Mihir Gireeshan and I met, it was clear that we shared something extraordinary. We've laughed together, cried together, picked each other up during our worst, and run a business together. Navigating our business as two strong-willed Aquarians has been a humbling learning experience. Here's what we learnt: 1. Open communication is key. We don't always see eye-to-eye, but that's actually a good thing! Our different viewpoints spark creative solutions that we might have missed otherwise. 2. We have different strengths. We recognized this early on and assign tasks accordingly. By doing so, we delegate and create a work environment where we both thrive and do what we love. 3. Disagreements? Sure, we have them (every couple does!). But at the end of the day, we both want the same thing: for our business to succeed. Aside from Luxus, the core focus of my every day, I’ve been involved in an exciting project due for launch this Summer. As many of you know, stepping out of your comfort zone is often where the magic happens. As we head towards the launch of our brewing company and first taproom, I found myself embracing an unexpected challenge: a media day and photoshoot to showcase our brand. For someone more comfortable behind the scenes, this was a leap into the unknown. Here's what I learned from this exhilarating experience… Growth Begins at the Edge of Comfort - Posing for photos and speaking to the camera felt daunting at first. But pushing through that discomfort led to a newfound confidence and excitement about sharing our story with the world. Authenticity Connects - The day was filled with candid moments and genuine interactions. By being ourselves, we were able to convey our passion and vision authentically, which will resonate deeply with our audience. Teamwork Shines Bright - Our amazing team came together, showcasing not just our products but the spirit and camaraderie behind them. It was a powerful reminder that success is a collective effort, built on mutual support and shared enthusiasm. Last week was my first “work anniversary” at Pluriell. Still no regrets when looking back at the choices that brought me here exactly 1 year ago. It’s already been a hell of a ride. Starting a new market is clearly not a cakewalk, a consistent rollercoaster of ups and downs. For everyone out there starting a new business or opening a new market, allow me to share 3 actionable takeaways : 📞 Coldcalling is still the best asset of the toolbox. Marketing is a great helper but relying solely on mailings & PR will soon leave you high and dry. 📆 Talking about marketing. Events & fairs are, in my opinion, one of the best ways to get in touch with a new customer base. Also a great way to know your ICP and how to address them 🤝 Start partnerships. I’m truly amazed by what comes out of simply meeting other actors from the same sector. We’re all on the same boat, so why not reach out and push further together ? I could go on for another 50 but most important of all : give it all you have, be resilient. Hard work always pays off 💪 💪 . The best is yet to come ! #StrongerTogether
