The framework is based on an extensive analysis of human-AI collaboration in forecasting at several companies from a variety of industries, through empirical research conducted by the authors at the MIT Digital Supply Chain Transformation lab and WHU — Otto Beisheim School of Management. "The research team collaborated with companies to understand the challenges in their forecasting efforts and to investigate the specific roles of human and AI agents in the area, particularly the synergies of teaming them up. "Research methodologies include experimental design analysis that quantifies the effect of human intervention in AI/machine learning demand forecasting and the development of AI/machine learning models that evaluate the value of expert judgment in the presence of other external features, such as clickstream data."
