TL;DR version: you probably need a coach. I was born with the FIDIM gene aka the “___ it, I’ll do it myself” gene. ..and Ed’s latest post below resonates with me. About FIDIM: ✅Sustains you early in your career. 🚫Eventually has diminishing returns. In 2022 I realized there were traits that no longer served my career goals. In 2023 I got a coach. How it started: Five (5) past/present colleagues I respect the most anonymously evaluated my strengths + weaknesses. Next Tuesday Advisors and I worked 1:1 weekly. Results: -My approach to work is radically different. -I learned that my FIDIM is not a feature; It’s a bug. A stress response that I now have tools to manage. -I found new strengths to nurture. In short: I echo Ed. Self awareness, Knowing how people experience you, clarity on gifts vs strengths + coaching can be game changers. P.S. Pictured in comments: quantitative evidence from Tuesday Advisor’s of how strong the FIDIM gene is🫠. I appreciated how they led with data, too.
I cannot imagine serving in my current role without a substantial awareness of my strengths, weaknesses, gifts, and triggers. Leaders owe it to those we serve to be more self-aware of how we show up and how people may be experiencing us. As the City of Birmingham celebrates #mentalhealth month, I am highlighting a few strategies that have worked well for me. READ HERE: https://lnkd.in/gaFtGyNU

When we treat people with respect and dignity and create opportunities through which they can realize their potential and be appreciated-this is how we in business, can fix the broken American Dream. Every person you encounter is a precious life. Even though some may make it difficult to believe that, treat them as such anyway. There’s a book that states something to the effect of don’t repay evil with evil.. let’s start with walking that walk and talking that talk. People are not the means to the end, they are the end. #people #leadership #HR #business

PSTO - 182: Doesn't it happen to most of us when someone close to us, be it a family member or a friend or even a colleague reads our mind and somewhat predicts our next move or next expression?? Is it a Cosmic Connection or is it a sense developed based out of mutual trust, admiration and understanding? Whatever it is, are we a similar person to any of the people around us? If not, then doesn't it require a bit of introspection? A point to ponder!! #hr #hrcommunity #humanity #leadership

What is the age gap between your organisation's #leadershipTeam and your #employees? What is the difference in age between your youngest employee and your most experienced one? You measure this not to highlight the differences but to #leverage it! #GenerationalDiversity is an important metric to consider and monitor. It promotes #creativeProblemSolving and #innovation. While we are at it, have you heard of #reverseMentoring? If the age difference between your leadership and employees is more than 15 years, you should definitely think about reverse mentoring in your organisation. #WorkplaceRelationships #February #rediscover #rediscoverUwithV
