Flipping the ‘R’s: Elevating Employee Recognition Over Rewards in Building a Culture of Excellence Employee recognition is the foundation of a thriving workplace culture. While rewards acknowledge achievements with tangible benefits, employee recognition fuels intrinsic motivation, fostering a sense of belonging, appreciation, and purpose. This transformative insight is reshaping the way organizations approach engagement. In an article by Karuna Parmar titled “Flipping the ‘R’s: Elevating Employee Recognition Over Rewards in Building a Culture of Excellence,” Partha Neog, CEO and Co-founder of Vantage Circle, shared his valuable insights on recognition and rewards. He also highlights the need to recalibrate the R&R framework. Sunita Rebecca Cherian, Chief Culture Officer and Senior Vice President, Corporate Human Resources at Wipro and Member, Wipro Executive Committee, emphasizes the importance of ensuring consistency across a dispersed workforce by selecting “a global and flexible platform that democratizes recognition.” We resonate with her thoughts and recall the positive impact of the Winner’s Circle platform, powered by Vantage Circle, which is building a global culture of recognition at Wipro. The article by SHRM rightly mentions, “By integrating recognition into the flow of work, leveraging technology, and fostering leadership advocacy, organizations can create cultures where appreciation is a cornerstone of success.” Swipe through the slides and learn more. "DEI is an after-thought of the HR department", a DEI expert shared with me, from his years of experience working with several organizations on their DEI strategy Intrigued by this perspective, I posed a simple question to my customer SPOCs (HR/Engagement/Culture leads): Why is diversity in your workforce important to your organization? The responses were interesting and insightful. Here are my favourite answers: The HR leader at a large power company in Asia stated, "DIB (Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging) is embedded in our culture. The leaders saw value in diversity with improved talent density and pipeline, low employee turnover and better brand positioning" The Engagement lead of a multi-national ITES enterprise said, "Diversity is default. We are only embracing it. Besides, intersectionality matters for innovation and thought leadership" The Sr. HR Manager of a banking organization in North America shared, "We serve diverse communities. It only makes sense to seek diverse employee representation to meet the needs of the community" What would be your response to my question? #DEI #DiversityAndInclusion #RepresentationMatters #Belonging #WorkplaceCulture #HR #EmployeeEngagement

Usually, I hear how difficult it is to crack the code on veteran hiring and then making them successful in private sector, and yes, it is true! I have seen the challenges first-hand ... there is no lack of want, it is just getting the "how to" right. Having discussed on this topic with Kavita some time back I learnt some new ways to problem solve with intentionality. Sharing with my network, especially TA / HR leaders in India, a good opportunity to learn from organizations that made it a success. #recruitment #veterans #indiahiring #DEI

A few months ago, The Perk team sat in on a Gartner training about the evolving role of HR Business Partners 💼 We've always championed HR as more than transactional partners. We work with SO many dedicated & forward-thinking HR managers & directors on a daily basis. If you ever needed a reason why HR is strategic, it's because they're....hiring The Perk. 😉 All kidding aside, the message was clear from Gartner: That HR teams are being asked to move beyond the transactional to become true strategic business partners 📈 But what does this mean, exactly? Gartner says that instead of being focused on: Responding to emergencies 🚨 Answering day-to-day questions ❓ Handling immediate employee needs ⚡️ HR leaders are being asked to step into bigger conversations about: Organizational structure & strategy 🏗️ Leadership development pipelines 🌱 Strategic recruitment & retention planning 🎯 Systems-level thinking about people & culture 🧩 Here's where I'd love to hear from my HR pros 👋. Are you/have you been experiencing this shift? What are the things that get in the way of you truly being that more strategic partner? If you don't want to comment in public here, DM me. Seriously. I'd love to hear your thoughts & understand how The Perk can align our solutions to support this shift! 💭 #EvolutionofHR #GartnerResearch #OrganizationalDevelopment #ThePerk

A recent article on People Management Platform about Talent Expectation Gap is featured here! This gap is akin to the difference between a Thali and a Buffet - both offer a variety of dishes, but the choice and flexibility differ significantly. Narrowing the talent expectations gap is an ongoing effort that needs a thorough knowledge of the changing workplace trends and a dedication to building a work culture where both the employer and the employee feel respected and content. Happy National HR Professionals Day! 🌍✨ Today, we celebrate the heart of every organization—the #HRProfessionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to shape, support, and empower teams around the world. But this day is more than just recognition; it’s a call to action and a reminder for HR leaders everywhere to reflect on the impact we have and the incredible responsibility we hold. HR is the bridge between strategy and people. As HR leaders, we are the architects of culture, the champions of talent, and the stewards of organizational success. Yet, this role requires more than administrative tasks—it requires vision, courage, and relentless advocacy for the people who make organizations thrive. As we celebrate today, as yourself the question: Are we truly living up to the transformational power of our roles? • Are we setting the standard for inclusion and belonging in our workplaces? • Are we advocating for the well-being and development of our teams with the same intensity that we advocate for business results? • Are we courageous enough to challenge the status quo and lead with empathy, transparency, and integrity? Today, let’s recommit to the true essence of HR leadership. We aren’t just managing processes—we’re shaping the future of work. Every decision we make impacts the lives of individuals and the success of our organizations. Let’s be intentional in building cultures of trust, fairness, and excellence. We’re witnessing remarkable transformations – from heightening employee satisfaction to boosting organizational productivity. Implementing these strategies requires dedication, empathy, and a keen understanding of human motivations. I have seen it more times than I can count: in many ‘small and medium-sized companies’, there’s that one #HR #BusinessPartner (HRBP) juggling everything, from handling basic employee queries to organizing birthday cakes and running random activities under the banner of #EmployeeEngagement. It is like trying to patch a leaking boat with duct tape. Sure, it works in the short term, but is it really addressing the bigger issues? Not quite. Engagement is not just about putting-out #fires when someone is annoyed about a policy. It has to go deeper! Real engagement starts with #managers, the people directly influencing the #work and #culture of their teams. HRBPs should be working with them to focus on improving #TeamDynamics and ensuring employees feel #connected to the company’s vision. 💡 Let me give you an example - I once worked with a company where the HRBP handled everything. But when it came to actual engagement —developing managers’ #leadership skills or addressing team #culture — it was an afterthought. Unsurprisingly, the company had ‘high turnover’ and an uninspiring culture. If leadership is serious about #improving employee experience, HRBPs need to focus on strategic initiatives. Stop expecting them to manage every small thing and instead, allow them to #partner with managers on workforce planning, leadership development, and employee engagement. Here is how HR BPs can add real value: 📌 Workforce Planning: Is your team built to meet #future needs? HRBPs can help identify skill gaps and ensure the right talent mix for where the company is headed. 📌 Strengthening Employer Brand: Do your people feel connected to your company’s mission and values? HRBPs can help build a #culture that aligns with what your brand stands for. 📌 Growing Your Talent Pipeline: Top talent should not just be identified; they need to be #nurtured. HRBPs can ensure the right development opportunities are available, along with plans for key roles and succession. 📌 Data-Driven Insights: HRBPs can use #analytics — from employee feedback to attrition trends — to inform leadership and drive proactive decisions on improving engagement and retention. So, instead of treating your HR BP like a catch-all, think of them as your #StrategicPartner in building a stronger, more engaged company. Believe me, the difference will show!
