Hiring Frank Elkins as CEO of Selco Builders Warehouse and GB Distribution for Grafton Group plc is a stunning acquisition! He is a true industry legend and a man of the upmost integrity. He will lead this business to even greater success, building on the excellent work of Howard Luft. If I were an executive at Stark and especially Travis Perkins I would now be very concerned. How many people will follow Frank out of the ones they have left who haven't joined John? How many customers will make the switch? How did Travis Perkins manage to lose so many good leaders? People like Frank, John Carter, and Kieran Griffin. Frank or Kieran could have been their next CEO. As I said in a post the other day, succession planning is vital to the success of a business. Of course, people leave companies for many different reasons. Some are pushed, others make the choice, wanting a new challenge in a new environment. For others it's a case of losing faith in the leadership above. Losing one of these great men is forgiveable, losing all three could be considered negligent. Frank was last years winner of the BMJ Industry Personality of the Year Award, sponsored by Wilson Brook Consulting. Will he now, in the years ahead, become the first person to win it twice? I have done loads of recruitment for Selco both in the 2000's, when they weren't so well known, and more recently. A vulnerable and exciting update for my network: A little over a year ago, when I joined The Admin Effect as their Chief Marketing Officer, I stepped out of my comfort zone and really put my imposter syndrome to the test. I could confidently tell an office how many seminars they would need to hold to meet their growth goals for the year. I could identify gaps in branding and deliverables for a company, create and execute a social media calendar, and organize a client events schedule. However, I had no idea what Firelight was. I didn't know what a replacement application entailed. I didn't fully grasp the difference between a carrier and a custodian. The only thing I knew about a Roth IRA was simply that I had one. And don't even ask me to explain the difference between qualified and non-qualified funds. The list goes on... I share this because, in a matter of months, with the guidance and support of our incredible team, I learned what Firelight was (spoiler: it's not the song by Owl City). I learned the significance of IRA types in applications, and the difference between qualified and non-qualified funds. This knowledge allowed me to develop effective case management training, forecast how many applications our team can complete in a day, and streamline money movement timeframes and strategies. Let my experience during the past year be a testament to the true power of The Admin Effect. Our service offering, and ESPECIALLY our training program, was created with the framework that I followed to get to this point, and that our team has followed as well. A special shoutout to our Leadership Team for pushing me toward this opportunity and giving me the grace and confidence to take on this new role. Last week we broke our summer weekly sales record at The Spaniards Inn selling more than 85k in a week 🎉🥁 7 months ago in December I also led the Spaniards team which broke the all time weekly sales record piling in more than 100k in sales for the first time in the pub's history! 🥳 That's two records broken since becoming team leader at the Spaniards.😌 Truth be told the reason we were able to achieve these records is because of the amazing team we have here at the Spaniards comprising of some of the most driven individuals I've ever met, from back of house to front of house. 🏆🫂 Not to mention our achievements wouldn't be possible without our amazing GM Samuel Stradling who knows the game better than anyone else! He is the one who lays out the gameplan and provides us with all the resources we need.
