Exciting developments in the management of atrial fibrillation (AF)! An updated guideline by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association introduces a novel classification system, recognizing AF as a progressive disease. The stages, ranging from at-risk to permanent AF, emphasize tailored prevention and intervention strategies at different disease stages. Key recommendations include lifestyle modifications, weight loss, blood pressure control, and specific physical activity guidelines. The guideline offers a more prescriptive approach, detailing the type, duration, and intensity of exercise beneficial for AF patients. The importance of a multidisciplinary approach is underscored, extending beyond heart rhythm management to include holistic patient care, aligning with individual goals and needs. [Link: https://lnkd.in/gnTsYFNs] At RhythmScience, we recognize the need for comprehensive cardiac care and are dedicated to transforming the management of heart failure and other chronic cardiac conditions. Per our recent Radcliffe Cardiology webinar on HD-IVUS Guidance in PCI as the Standard of Care with Prof. Hammerstingl and Dr. Völz from Eduardus Hospital in Germany ... "It (IVUS-guided PCI) is an investment into safety and outcomes because the data are clear, and I think if we use it in daily clinical routine, you will see this statement is not only clear in complex situations but also in non-complex situations." https://lnkd.in/dzEHbdVR

Prisma Health is the first health system in the Upstate to perform a cardiac ablation procedure using a newly FDA-approved device. The pulsed-field ablation (PFA) procedure to treat atrial fibrillation (AF) is an innovative new alternative to standard-of-care thermal ablation. In a traditional thermal ablation, surgeons use a catheter guided to the heart’s interior, which generates high temperatures to destroy the specific areas in the heart associated with abnormal heart rhythms. Pulsed-field ablation relies on tissue-selective, non-thermal electric fields to ablate heart tissue and avoid damage to surrounding structures. Evidence indicates PFA therapy provides faster procedure times than conventional ablation techniques and minimizes risks associated with thermal ablation. Peter Netzler, MD, FHRS, led care teams performing the procedure using the FARAPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation System at Greenville Memorial Hospital. “Pulsed-field ablation is an innovative and emerging therapy,” said Dr. Netzler, who is Medical Director of the Electrophysiology Department for Prisma Health in the Upstate. “We’re proud to be the first in the Upstate offering this therapy. It’s one of the biggest innovations in the field of electrophysiology in the last decade and will help us treat more patients, reduce complications and benefit overall health in our communities.” Atrial fibrillation is a quivering or irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia. Atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib or AF, can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Approximately seven million Americans live with this arrhythmia. #PrismaHealthProud #PrismaHealthCardiology

“Sometimes the eyes cannot see what the computer can analyze” - Dr. Rohit Mody During the interview, Dr. Rohit Mody, an expert interventional cardiologist from India, shared a compelling case study that underscored the pivotal role of Medis QFR® in enhancing diagnostic accuracy. The case involved a patient with tandem lesions in the left main artery and the LAD. Initially the clinical team decided to only stent the LAD. However, a post PCI QFR evaluation revealed a QFR of 0.7. Clinical studies have found that a post-PCI QFR should be above 0.9 to ensure better long-term outcome for the patient. This prompted a closer examination, leading to the discovery of a significant blockage in the Left Main. The Medis QFR® analysis guided the interventional procedure, enabling the team to stent both lesions, in the left main and the LAD, completing a comprehensive and successful intervention. This case exemplifies how Medis QFR® goes beyond visual assessment, providing crucial insights that can be missed with eyeballing and aids strategic decision-making in the Cath lab. #MedisQFR #PhysiologyMadeSimple #ClinicalInsights #InterventionalCardiology #PrecisionMedicine"
