An analysis by AHIP and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association estimates that the No Surprises Act prevented 10.1 million unexpected out-of-network medical bills from January to September 2023. The report, which is based on a survey of 21 health insurers that represent 65% of the commercial market, found that most of the claims eligible under the law were settled through an initial payment, and less than a fourth of the claims underwent the 30-day negotiation process.
