We hear this line ever so often: "Investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully" How many of us actually read these documents? These documents are even more critical in the #startup #unlisted space As an angel investor, I only invest in companies after proper due diligence is done. IPV has some great documentation to support the same. This is the first step to ensure a higher success rate. #data #duediligence #angelinvesting

Thrilled to have participated in the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 07-08 Jan'24. It was an electrifying atmosphere buzzing with innovation and entrepreneurial spirit! My session on insights into early-stage investing seemed to resonate with the audience, and I enjoyed engaging in stimulating discussions about nurturing India's next big startups. But beyond the talks, the true highlight was witnessing the sheer diversity and potential of Tamil Nadu's startup ecosystem. From cutting-edge D2C brands to mind-boggling space-tech ventures, these young companies are truly pushing the boundaries! ✨ Feeling incredibly optimistic about the future of Tamil Nadu and India's startup landscape. List of companies/startups which are highly profitable, does NOT have founders from IITs (including IITB), and are extremely big earning huge profits - Reliance ($210B) Tata ($250B) ITC ($60B) HDFC ($200B) Bajaj ($100B) Birla Group ($100B) etc. Afaik, none of the stock in Nifty 50 or even in Nifty 100 has been founded by someone from a person who has studied in IIT. And IITs have been around for ~60-70 years now. Please get over this cringe infatuation of college names and how elite they are. No, IITians aren't known for problem solving, people who actually solve the problem, execute it well and can earn profits are known for problem solving. Anyone can be a problem solver. Grouping people's success based on colleges, countries, religion, caste, etc, is purely elitist, cringe, reeks of insecurity, and narrow thinking who isn't able to think beyond that group. P.S. Valuations mentioned above are approximate
At IIT Bombay, problem-solving is a way of life! IITians are known for their unique approach to tackling challenges. This mindset sets them apart. In my fourth year at IIT Bombay, I had the chance to meet Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Ola. Bhavish visited our Hostel where he also lived once. Listening to Bhavish was inspiring. He spoke with a lot of energy and conviction. His journey resonated with me deeply. That day, I realised the power of problem-solving. It’s about seeing opportunities where others see obstacles. Bhavish's story reminded me that with determination and creativity, we can turn any challenge into a success. It fuelled my passion for solving problems and reinforced the importance of innovation. At IITs , this spirit of problem-solving defines us and drives us to make this world a better place. #india #startups #business #technology

India is at the cusp of a rapid growth phase and the VC landscape is undergoing a tectonic shift with increasing potential of Angel Investors, CVCs, Micro VCs, Solo GPs, new fund structures and a lot more👇 The Indian VC ecosystem has cautiously matured post the aftermath of 2021’s funding brouhaha: ➡️ Investors are shifting their focus from traditionally dominant SaaS models to exciting new frontiers like deeptech, healthcare, and the burgeoning field of Generative AI. ➡️ This diversification is supported by a surge of India-focused funds making their way in the ecosystem. ➡️ Interestingly, Family offices & CVCs in India are also increasingly eyeing the startup-market. ➡️ According to Saumya Rajan of Waterfield Advisors, private market investments by family offices have grown from almost 1% to 12% in the past few years. ➡️ CVC participation in the Indian startup ecosystem is increasing at a rate of 7% per year. But, this opportunity remains untapped and yet to be accelerated with a lack of concentrated discussions, awareness and curated networking. On a mission to unlock India’s domestic capital for startups, we are thrilled to announce the return of MoneyX 2024 by Inc42 – India’s largest invite-only conclave for startup investors where 300+ leading LPs, GPs & Angels will converge to fuel India’s thriving startup renaissance. Join us on 26th of September 2024 at The Oberoi, Gurugram to discuss the trends shaping the future of startup investments in India.
