Going Green is Good for Business! Need help getting started? Contact our Local Enterprise Office about our free resources and training to guide you on your sustainable journey. See how others succeed: Mac’s Deli is a family-run café, bakery and catering business in the heart of Letterkenny. The LEO Green for Business scheme provided Mac’s Deli with a consultant who examined the business in detail, from lighting to solar panels and even fridges, and recommended ways to improve its energy usage. Following this, Mac’s Deli was eligible for the #EnergyEfficiency Grant, which provided a grant for the business to implement these recommendations. This allowed them to change fridges and freezers, which were high-energy users, and their ovens. Their energy usage was reduced by 30%, saving the company €1,500 to €2000 monthly on electricity. Make your business a sustainability champion too! #Offaly #Sustainability #SmallBusiness #LEO #GreenBusiness"

Besides government, law, campaign, education, or charges, sometimes, we need something more sexy in food waste reduction. Take a look of Nest - a smart thermostat company and was acquired by Google. According to reports, about one in six households in the US now has a smart thermostat to help reduce energy bills. Now that the Nest co-founders have built a device to keep track of how much food they are keeping out of the waste bin. Apparently, people have changed their behavior and have reduced 20% of food waste in the pilot run. Stay tuned and see whether it could repeat the Nest’s success but this time in food waste reduction. https://lnkd.in/gJTHQw28

🌍 International E-Waste Day 🌍 In 10 years, our yearly electronic waste will surpass the weight of 203 Empire State buildings! E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally, and most of it is not recycled properly. The UK is currently one of the largest producers of household e-waste in the world. This includes everything from old mobile phones to laptops, fridges, and vacuum cleaners 🔋 Before joining the tech and IT sector, I didn't appreciate the sheer volume of E-Waste that we produce on a yearly basis, but also the environmental impacts that this creates. Our throwaway culture and growing demand for new tech, means we produce the equivalent e-waste of more than six kilograms for every person on the planet each year! 🗑 Here are a few ways you can reduce your e-waste: 📱Repair devices instead of replacing them 💻Donate or sell old electronics that still work ♻️Recycle responsibly by using certified e-waste recyclers. 💡Buy second-hand or refurbished tech whenever possible Take action today and reduce your e-waste!
