How does a public school expand when additional students are required and must be enrolled and in attendance before facilities can be expanded and enlarged? During the past 33 years, Telesis has expanded 3 times. The first two times, classes for half of our student body were held off-campus. In the state of Arizona, public schools cannot expand until they have the students registered to require more space. This is tricky as in order to invite those additional students and teachers in, I had to find a place in our community to have their classrooms while half of our campus was under construction. Each of these expansions required a full school year of off-campus education for grades 6-12. Grades K-5 remained on campus utilizing only half of the campus that did not require construction. We fondly called both of these extraordinary off-campus locations: SITE TWO. The following video tells the story of what I consider to be an amazing feat and could never have happened without the support from my community. For more information on this process, read chapter three of "Power of Community - Courage, Compassion & Collaboration Leads to Success." Please join Scott Postma next week for the Hope@Home National Virtual Conference for homeschooling families hosted by Jamie Buckland and WV FUE, Families United for Education. Scott will be speaking on How to Leverage Technology and Prepare Your Children for a Life Worth Living. When it comes to technology, the key word here is "leverage." In our modern technological age, parents often struggle to effectively navigate the use of technology in their child's education. On one side, there is the ditch of "huddle and cuddle," viewing technology as a danger to avoid. On the other side of the path, there is the ditch of "acquiescing to the inevitable tyranny" of technology. So where are the boundaries and what are the guidelines? Hint: the answer lies partially in first adopting a proper educational philosophy i.e., education must be accomplished for the right purpose—preparing our children for a life worth living. Register at https://lnkd.in/gfYrBe32 (if you can't make it to the live event, you can receive a copy of the recording) #Hope@HomeVirtualConference #wvfue
