In honor of The International Cat Day (today): Cat poo parasite 'could unlock key to treating Alzheimer's disease'. Scientists have successfully manipulated toxoplasma gondii, a powerful parasite found in cat poo and kitty litter, to deliver proteins to the brains of mice. This breakthrough, published in the Nature Microbiology journal, could lead to significant advancements in treatment for neurological diseases. "Evolution already 'invented' organisms that can manipulate our brains. I think that instead of re-inventing the wheel, we could learn from them and use their abilities", said Prof. Oded Rechavi, from the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Sagol School of Neuroscience, Tel Aviv University.
