A very unusual and incorrect favourable spin on this recent #lowbackpain publication by Lorimer Moseley and Co. Rather than be reassured that most acute LBP and Subacute LBP recovers in around 6 weeks, I would be very concerned that 30% dont recover from acute LBP and progress to Subacute LBP. Of these another 30% progress to chronicity. Rather than flowering LBP as somewhat benign the take home message is that over time 6 out of 20 people who have recurrent symtoms progress to Chronic Low Back. This reflects exactly our paper describing the little discussed epidemic condition of Failed Back Pain Rehabilitation Syndrome (FBRS). Back pain outcomes will not improve until Academics, Clinicians, Surgeons, Rehabilitation Therapists and Insurers recognise this.

How could two practices in the same hospital system be so radically different? The administrative staff in the Heart & Vascular Care practice clearly hasn't been trained to understand patient experience. Their entire practice revolves around their administrative staff. "We return our calls at the end of the day." What they fail to understand is the appointment I was trying to reschedule could have been given to other patients - multiple times throughout the day. Then, there's Neurology, a practice that completely gets it. They are responsive. They are well organized. They are completely patient-focused. Perhaps Heart & Vascular could take the patient experience at Neurology (they happen to be in the same location) as their Northstar for their practice? https://lnkd.in/g5KSZJhE

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine. When looking at the spine directly from the back, it should appear as a straight line. With scoliosis, the spine appears to curve to one side, or both. The curving can involve twisting of the vertebrae which may be less perceptible to a nurse or a physician during a medical exam. Patients with chronic subdural haematoma (cSDH) tend to be older, and living with other health conditions, including frailty. Their care needs are often shared between hospitals and other settings. The Improving Care in Elderly Neurosurgery Initiative (ICENI) has developed the first clinical practice guideline dedicated to caring for patients with cSDH that has been endorsed by national professional bodies. So that we can maximise its positive effects on patient care, we need to consider any issues that might affect it being put into practice and ways we can resolve them.
