"Do less, be more." – Elizabeth Grace Saunders Definition of Workiversary A workiversary is the anniversary of your start date at your current workplace. It's not just a date on the calendar - it's a commemoration of your journey, growth, and contributions to your team and organization. Think of it as the work equivalent of a birthday. Just like how you'd celebrate turning a year older, a workiversary is an opportunity to celebrate another year of professional growth and achievements. #February22

The summer holidays are drawing to a close, and we’re ready to start our next chapter. My daughter is beginning her final year of secondary school, and my son is starting his own secondary journey. Balancing a career I’m passionate about with the joys and responsibilities of life has been both an honour and a juggling act. My career in the learning disability sector began when I returned from maternity leave in 2010, a new mum determined to make my mark while nurturing my family. Over the years, I’ve risen from senior manager to CEO, all while growing my family and remaining dedicated to my roles as a parent, partner, and professional. It’s important to recognise that working full-time doesn’t diminish our personal roles—whether as parents, caregivers, or individuals with passions and responsibilities outside of work. In fact, it enriches them. The resilience, dedication, and passion we bring to our work are the same qualities that shape our personal lives. I’m incredibly proud of the well-rounded, brilliant individuals my children are becoming—not in spite of my career, but alongside it. As my children embark on their own educational journeys, I’m reminded of the countless others who are managing this delicate balance in their own unique ways. Whether you’re just starting out or have been walking this path for years, know that your dedication is seen and respected. We juggle meetings and responsibilities, deadlines and personal time, often feeling like we’re constantly moving pieces on a complex chessboard. To all those who share this journey, past and present: I see you. I respect you. And I’m inspired by you. Let’s continue to support one another, lifting each other up in this shared experience of striving, loving, and leading by example—for ourselves, for our colleagues, and for those we care about. Here’s to embracing every role we play, knowing that we are enough in each one. #Leadership #CareerAndLife #WomenInLeadership #CEO #WorkLifeBalance #Inspiration #Respect #LearningDisability #WomenInBusiness #CareerGrowth

Financial Crime Risk specialist. Author "How not to be a money launderer", "Understanding Suspicion in Financial Crime", "Cleaning up the 'Net" and "Trade Based Financial Crime". Consultancy, seminars, writing.
It began with anniversaries which (the clue is in the word) celebrate a whole year of something. Then six month "anniversaries" showing both a fundamental ignorance of the concept and what turned out to be a worrying trend towards short-termism especially in inter-personal relationships. The one-week "anniversary" is a terrifying commentary on expectations and, even worse, when it celebrates "when we met." We seem to have reached a situation where events that aren't even milestones are marked. Is that because we now expect to live transient lives in relationships that include life and work? When it's a cause for celebration in an office, with celebratory cakes with a message, when someone remains in a job for two years, that fills me with trepediation. Do people really think that they can get a grip on the culture of a complex organisation, learn the job in the way the company does it, and perform to the best possible (not, merely, that person's best because everyone can always do better) standard with one eye on the door ? Surely we should not think this is a good thing. Surely we should wonder why, if it's not the norm, it isn't and find out what is going wrong. And yes, this was prompted by a publicly available social media post of just such a celebration in an office. I just hope it didn't get added to a client's time ledger. #shorttermism #employment #culture #organisation #morriscotterill #timerecording

How to combine parenthood with career development?👶 I'm not a mother myself, but I have wonderful mothers around me and I see what they struggle with on daily basis. Of course, the topic also concerns fathers, who are often omitted from such discussions. Parenthood itself is a life challenge, let alone when we must be equally persistent in building our professional careers? 🤔 On the one hand, we have the undoubted joy of parenthood - magical moments with children, unique experiences and a one-of-a-kind bond 👨👩👧👦 On the other hand, we face the realities of the business world, which is often brutal and requires sacrifice, time and flexibility.🏢 The challenges are many. Meeting schedules, project deadlines and unpredictable work hours can create chaos in your home life. There is often a feeling of being torn between work responsibilities and the desire to be present for family. However, there are solutions. Companies are beginning to realize the need for flexible work models, offering home office programs, flexible hours or assistance in organizing corporate nurseries and kindergartens. These are steps in the right direction, but the question is, are they sufficient solutions? An individual approach to employees, understanding their needs and working together on solutions is the key. Advanced technologies make remote work easier, and company leaders who recognize the value of work-life balance gain employee loyalty and commitment. Dear companies, this is real Employer Branding!✨ Finally, it is important that we also actively work to build this balance. Recognizing your own priorities, delegating responsibilities and learning to organize your time effectively become crucial. However, let's not forget to look at our needs, be understanding towards each other, let's not be afraid to say it out loud when we don't have space for new tasks 🫶 I would like to hear your experiences and needs. What challenges did you encounter? What solutions have worked for you in reconciling parenthood with career development? #parenthood #worklifebalance #momatwork #dadatwork #HRtopic
