Wow! If you want to hear from someone who truly understands and lives their HR leadership brand, talk to Toni Newborn, J.D., City of Saint Paul, director of human resources, and founding chief equity officer. --- Even amidst a Minnesota snowstorm we found a way to bring Toni's dynamic HR leadership experience to our entire Hamline University HR management class of undergraduates last week. Key leadership lessons: * Leadership is all about relationships. * Learn how to network. "I found pathways to authentically network that brought me joy and served my community (e.g. chairing a gala committee and more)." * "I see my purpose as helping to eliminate poverty. When someone gets a job with the city they and their family are going to have a better life. HR is equity work." Her leadership brand? You really need to hear it directly from her. My take on it? She truly embodies the Maya Angelou quote that cites "people will never forget how you made them feel." She wants everyone to feel "warm and fuzzy inside".
