The mission of Velocity Health Group is to build a world-class talent development company for the behavioral health industry and deploying that talent in the direct operation of residential treatment centers for adolescents and young adults. A subset of this mission is to develop the role of direct care staff into a skilled trade. The demand/skills gap for qualified direct care staff is growing exponentially with no solution is sight. Building more treatment centers without addressing this workforce shortage will result in the continued deterioration of quality and outcomes in residential and inpatient settings. One individual I admire who is doing something about the demand/skills gap, albeit in a different field, is Matt Malone. Matt is the CEO of Groundworks, one of the largest foundation repair and waterproofing companies in the United States. He’s also a self-described capitalist, but he practices a new version of the economic system, one that recently had him turn 5,500 Groundworks employees into part owners of the company.
