I once was approached by a pharma start-up having a hard time finding a strategic partner. Basically, they needed $$$ and scientific support to get their drug (a phase I asset) to the next level. Normally this is a straightforward process. But the drug was in the cardiovascular space - a very competitive sector, making it harder to secure a partnership. That didn’t phase us. My team and I got straight to work on a partnership strategy. We leveraged our relationships and network, filtered companies based on fit, and began reaching out. Charles River Laboratories - up ~8% today on strong earnings If you follow my posts or the #SDCI, you know I look at Charles River to see where later-stage clinical development might be heading. 4Q2023 was down, but FY 2023 was up and 2024 guidance was "okay" - For 2023, revenue increased by 3.9% to $4.13 billion from $3.98 billion in 2022. Organic revenue growth was 6.5%. - CEO comments "We believe the current market environment is transitory. We are anticipating that some level of constrained client spending will persist in 2024, but that demand will stabilize over the course of the year. The long-term industry fundamentals for drug development remain firmly intact, which supports our goals to deliver sustained revenue growth and solid operating margin improvement in 2024 and in the future." #clinicaltrials #clinicaldevelopment #clinicalresearch
