On day 3 of our exploration of satellite history, we turn our attention to the first communications satellite launched into space! 📡 Project Echo was the first passive communications satellite experiment: 🚀 It consisted of two American spacecraft, launched in 1960 and 1964. ⚡ The technology used metallised balloon satellites that acted as passive reflectors of microwave signals. 🌎 Signals from a point on Earth were reflected off the satellite's surface and sent to another Earth-based location. 💬 The first communication test using Echo was sent from Goldstone, California, to Holmdel, New Jersey, on 12th August 1960. Satellite communication has come a long way since that first experiment. Now, direct-to-satellite networks can enable real-time, bi-directional data transfer from anywhere in the world! Learn more about how satellite-based LoRa® is unlocking the power of massive IoT in our whitepaper. https://lnkd.in/dgYptzrm #Satellite #SatelliteTechnology #SatelliteCommunications #Space #IoT #LoRa

🛰️ Are you planning to develop a nanosatellite or a constellation of small satellites? LEO satellite communication missions and the emergence of new applications are becoming more and more challenging. At Alén Space, we are experienced enough to know the requirements of a space project, so we have pre-configured closed payloads (ADS-B, AIS, IoT, DVB-S2) for different types of communication missions and ready to operate on small satellites. They are based on our SDR technology with flight heritage, implemented in our solutions and communication subsystems. PT Smartfren Telecom Tbk has successfully demonstrated Lynk's #sat2phone technology in #Indonesia, with the support of Indonesia's Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kemkominfo). Indonesia is the largest archipelago nation in the world. It has 17,000-18,000 islands, depending on how you count them. Nearly 1,000 of them are populated. There are over 270 million people on those islands spread out, east-to-west, for nearly 3,200 miles. It is IMPOSSIBLE to affordably connect everybody in Indonesia using conventional approaches. Unless you use Lynk.
PT Smartfren Telecom Tbk has successfully tested and demonstrated Lynk’s #sat2phone service using our 'cell towers in space' with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemkominfo) in #Indonesia. Together, we will enable #telecom access across the outermost regions of #Indonesia. SpaceX and T-Mobile collaborate to revolutionize mobile connectivity SpaceX, Elon Musk's space exploration company, has announced a pioneering partnership with T-Mobile to bring an entirely new mobile connectivity: Direct-to-Cell. This ambitious project aims to connect smartphones directly to SpaceX's Starlink satellites, opening the doors to a new era of communication and global coverage. To make this project possible, SpaceX is working on the new Starlink V2 Mini, equipped with antennas specially designed to receive signals from mobile devices. These compact antennas will be integrated into the satellites, allowing smartphones to connect directly to the Starlink network. One key aspect of this initiative is the elimination of the need for additional hardware on mobile devices. With an advanced eNodeB modem in the future Starlink V2 Mini, SpaceX intends to simulate radio base stations, enabling any smartphone to access the Starlink network. The Direct-to-Cell service will be rolled out gradually, with text messages expected as early as next year, followed by calls in 2025. Full data transmission is scheduled for 2025, while the connection of IoT devices is planned for 2026. While details on coverage areas and costs are still unknown, this innovation could be vital in emergency situations and in remote locations where terrestrial infrastructure is limited. However, delays related to the Starship rocket have postponed the launch of the new Starlink V2 Mini satellites, forcing SpaceX to use the Falcon 9. This SpaceX initiative positions itself among the first in the field of satellite communications directly to mobile devices, although AST SpaceMobile is conducting similar preliminary tests but with larger devices. With the promise of global connectivity and increased connection speed, the future looks promising for Direct-to-Cell. #SpaceX #Starlink #TMobile #SatelliteTechnology #MobileConnectivity #SpaceInnovation #CommunicationRevolution #SpaceTechnology #DirectToCell #IoT
