Yesterday we had our 1st session of LinkedIn #BigMindsCollective #APAC cohort on "Embracing Humanity in this Technological Age" and I had the opportunity to listen and interact with Ms. Margaret Heffernan, someone I have been following since more than a decade now.. specially after going through her #TedTalks on #Daretodisagree (https://lnkd.in/dVQGje4j) & the dangers of #willfulblindness (she has also published a book by the same name). It was a really interactive and fruitful/learning session for me.. rather in a way it brought up some new nuances, re-capped / fortified some older ones, on how to manage teams, organisations, stakeholders in this technological age. Few key takeouts for me were: --> Be the mind-guard (someone who navigates the flow of information in a discussion, meeting or corporate decision making, so that a specific and goal-beneficial result is attained) --> Be someone who Listen more (remember we have 2 ears and 1 mouth) and add value to the conversation --> Avoid Echo Chambers (people around you who always tend to agree with you or echo your thoughts) - as she has captured in her #tedtalk on #Daretodisagree, it is good to have people in the team / organisation who disagree with your POV or vice-a-versa, as it helps in firming up any narrative or discussion with more logic / rationale, resulting into a more thinking individual, thinking organisation and thinking society A couple of things which I would like to add from my POV are --> Trust the process and build a culture in the organisation which is more open, specific and has bias for outcomes --> Practice Radical Candor, an art of Caring Personally while Challenging Directly, you learn and grow over period of time. Read the book by same name by Kim Scott --> In this world of Technology, Data & Platforms, Have touch of human and power of data-tech to create castles (read it, engagement tactics) where customers can reside and stay long with brands you work with.
