I watched a fairly new show on Hulu called The Bear. My favorite character, Richie, is (for lack of wanting to seek a more "pc" term right now) the most 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙟𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙖𝙨𝙨. Phenomenal people person but didn't quite understand his value then lashed out repeatedly in frustration because of it. I spent Season 1 rooting for him and wanting to see him improve. Then "Forks" happened. Season 2; Episode 7. Talk about the optimal 'feel good' tv experience. This character transformed in the most uplifting way! During this episode, I noticed him reading "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara. Out of curiosity, I bought it and read it. Amazing. How cool that I intended to just start a new TV show, relax, and laugh ... and it led to one of the best books I've ever read. Talk Show Host @ The News Forum | Empowering Critical Thinking in Young Canadians | Founder @ Vision Luxx Studios Inc.
In a recent episode, in fact, our 50th episode officially, we had arguably the best conversation in my entire TV career. What is typically a divisive issue on politics, Jonathan Harvey and Anthony Feor along with myself managed to turn this conversation into a productive, efficient, and simplistic way of understanding politics. I’m aiming for solutions, not antagonizationn. In the media, it’s crucial that shows like this balance both perspectives and continue to do so for eternity. Just remember, do not simply accept what you are told. Challenge your thinking, engage in differences, and listen to new perspectives. Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/ekBYgVsp

Bet on yourself Vince Gilligan, the creator and producer of Breaking Bad might not have even pitched the show to Sony had he known that Weeds existed. Both are shows where a suburban parent starts selling illegal substances for quick cash. Furthermore, Weeds had already begun airing and was Showtime’s highest rated series. We already know what happened with Breaking Bad, though. It got 5 seasons, 248 award nominations, 92 award wins, and Rotten Tomatoes ranked it as the best TV series in the past 25 years. I personally struggle to write because I think, “everybody knows this stuff already”. I don’t post here because I’m looking for visibility (it doesn’t hurt, but it’s not my goal). I want to write things that are insightful and helpful, and sometimes it’s hard to think about why my voice would be better than sharing a link with all of you. But I think there’s something to the concept of continuing to hone in on your voice. When Gilligan learned about Weeds, the co-heads told him, "Great show. But your thing is completely different. She deals pot and your guy deals crystal meth. Apples and oranges." You have something unique intrinsically because it’s coming from you. So bet on yourself. Bet on your vision. We’re all working with the same clay, but I still want to see what you end up making. Everyone’s looking for a way to stand out, and betting on yourself is the first step down that path. #lessonsfrom #television #customersuccess #voicevanguard Link to the article Vince Gilligan wrote: https://lnkd.in/g_KU4ydb

EP 12 - Cuttin’ Up About What It Takes to Get a TV Show On Air Here’s the truth. Most Hollywood television and film projects don’t make it to screen. The old adage that you can probably get struck by lightning faster than you can get a show on the air tells you everything you need to know. But what does it actually mean to sell a TV or film project? Taking it from an idea to pitching it to potential buyers? Because selling an idea is only the very, very beginning… There are many, many steps. So in this episode of The Creative Cut Up podcast, Felicia Pride and co-host Georgette P. cut up about what it means to actually sell a show, the roles studios and networks play, why selling a show doesn’t guarantee it being greenlit, and why films are often easier to pitch than TV shows. Listen to episode 12 of The Creative Cut Up wherever you catch your podcasts or at thecreatedaily.com.

#MeetTheTeamTuesday: Meet Breeze! Breeze Riley is a Senior Writer for Tell-Tale TV and has been with the site since 2020. Her recent coverage includes Orphan Black: Echoes and Under the Bridge. Breeze is a Podcaster for DC Studios Podcast and previously The Flash Podcast, and is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic. In addition to Tell-Tale TV, you can also find Breeze’s work at MultiverseofColor.com. For Meet the Team Tuesday, Breeze is answering a few questions about her love of television: What's the one TV show you're always trying to convince people to watch? It was Reservation Dogs when it was on the air (and I still think more people need to check it out!) Now it's probably trying to convince people who haven't read the books to give Percy Jackson and the Olympians a try. I promise you will still enjoy it! What's the most rewarding part of writing about TV? The most rewarding part is being part of a community of TV viewers. As someone who reads a lot of work from other writers and other sites, I know how much it adds to the TV watching experience to get to engage with others' thoughts and opinions. Name a TV cancellation that broke your heart. There have been so many, but the decision to REVERSE the renewal of GLOW gave me new trust issues when it came to television. Unfortunately, it was a bad sign for the state of the industry to come. You can follow Breeze on X: @BreezeRiley
